Look at the reader reviews on Gamefaqs. There is a good mix of those that loved it and those that hated it. If it had been universally hated, then I would have avoided it.

tobe honest i think red steel is a pretty decent game, the controls could use fine tuning but they were good enough for a launch title, except sword fights which i dont like. the graphics needs to be improved, because for the money tat ubisoft spent i expected them to be better.
but the game itself is a challenge as it gets ridiculously hard in the later stages and just becomes fustrating

I actually didn't hate Red Steel, and that is saying something because with a few rare exceptions I dislike FPS games. But it could have something to do with the fact that I bought it with My Wii on launch day along with Twilight Princess and I was just having too much fun with Wii Sports and Zelda for a mediocre to slow me down.
Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.
One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.
One poster in a different thread was telling me that once he went into the options and tweaked the controls, they were MUCH better than the default settings. I assume he was talking about adjusting the sensitivity, maybe the bounding box and maybe some auto-aim on/off. Not sure what all options are there until I get it, obviously.

^ haven't looked into that, I like how it feels now, but there is defenately room for improvement

I rented it twice, beat it within those 2 times.
Its not horrible, I mean it has...
*Decent Story
*Good Graphics for the Wii
*Voice Acting
But what ruins it is...
*Clunky Controls
*Multiplayer is meh
*Some moments of horrible framedrops
The biggest thing I liked about was destructible terrain, amazing graphics in some parts, and the ending, choosing if you want to let the bad guy live or not, changing the entire ending.
For 20$ or less, its a steal. Its nothing amazing, but its not that bad either...

I own all of lastgen systems as of October 2008. (Finally got a Dreamcast)
I own every currentgen system except PS3.
Here's hoping for a Red Steel 2 with Motion Plus. Katana fights might not be so bad then, plus I can envision a neat little sword fighting multiplayer mode.
I've only watched my friend play it for a few moments on single player and played multiplayer for a bit. All around, it was ok, pretty good for a launch title.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Bet: If Kingdom Hearts 3 becomes a multiplaform title/is not Wii exclusive then I will be banished from this land for 1 week and sing my praises to those who have proved themselves to be more intelligent than I.http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y267/RDBRaptor/rdbraptor_sig16.jpg%5B/IMG%5D">

But like I said before...some people have said that the controls are very good once you tweak them. Did you use the default settings?
