Seems like a lot.

Jesus dude how many times are you going to post that link? You're worried everyone didn't already see it in the other thread? Please just sell your Xbox 360s and go back to loving your PS3, then nothing will get between you and your first love and some of us won't have to roll our eyes at your posts.

Thank you for your interest in my post. I guess I should have included a disclaimer "I didn't write the article". Hell, the number seems exagerated to me. The part I'm most interested in is that they are waiting for MS to respond. I expect MS to outright deny the numbers but we'll probably get a non-answer, answer. I posted it as a topic of discussion which is what I thought forums were for. Maybe I'm wrong?

To answer your questions: I am going to post it twice, which I did. I'm not worried about everyone not seeing it. I posted it in the other thread then thought to myself "this actually probably belongs in a new thread". I'll edit my post in the other thread and delete the link if that will help you sleep better at night. Why would I sell my 360's? I like them. I use them everyday. I don't like the defect rate. If that makes me a 360 hater or PS3 lover then so be it. I don't recall mentioning my love for the PS3 in either of the threads your refering to. You seem a little defensive, why is that?

You seem like a total asshole to me...maybe my posts aren't the ones that are being eyerolled.

 Well replied

Anyway, the fact that Microsoft isn't giving any real figures is a sign of a problem anyway, because if there's not a problem they'd be "Oh yeah, well that's just a few random problems, we've done an internal investigation, and only about 100 consoles are returned each month in the UK" or something along those lines.

yes that was well replied... but honestly that scares me that the numbers could be that high.... and honestly its believable... my friends 360 has broken on him 3 times... and thats only one person... i think microsoft is scared to announce any numbers because if they gave the real number the 360 might actually have to be recalled...

What really confuses me are the attach rates for the 360.

If we assume that all the 360s sold are in unique homes -- and none are redundant consoles because of breakages -- then the attach rate is superbly high. Suspiciously high, even, at 8+ games per console.

Now, what happens if we have significant redundancy? The attach rate goes up, and up to monumental levels. If 30 percent of consoles are replacements, then the attach rate is well over 10 games per console. Given that the attach rates are already extremely high for the 360, this quickly approaches absurdity.

More than anything else, this suggests to me that the failure rates probably aren't that high.

I wish to apologize for acting so rudely towards you, it's just that the topic got to me and I ended up posting something I shouldn't have.  I am going to try to not take things so seriously from now on and just enjoy these forums and the interesting people and discussions it contains.

I wish to apologize to you and all the people in the Sony forum if I appear to have been a troll recently.  I think it's just that some of the negative posts in the Microsoft forum got to me and caused me to act in what could be called a childish/trollish manner.  I think the PS3 is an amazing piece of technology and I hope that it's a success.  Here's hoping that fans of all consoles can come together for great discussions and leave any negativity at the door.

I was like daaaaaaaaaaaamn, then I saw that quote in the article and said to myself, "Self ... why would a customer be privy to this kind of information?"

That number is ridiculously too high. Europe has only complained about disc scratching ( http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3160212 ). Something tells me if consoles were failing by the boatload, we'd definitely hear it from a real source.

So far as I know that was the European commision who were investigated 360 for disc scratching. That doesn't mean to say other REAL sources haven't complained. The highly reputable UK TV program Watchdog ran a well publicised story about the 'shockingly high failure rates of 360's' and it's ongoing inadequate warranty in the region.

@ Dallas

My friend shocked me today when he told me his battery backup memory on his Saturn didn't work, so he played this RPG several times to get all the endings, leaving the system switched on continuously for 1 1/2 weeks!  The system only turned off when they had a power cut (losing all his play) but the Saturn never missed a beat.

It's like the 360 is a glass cannon.

microsoft needs to deal with this instead of ignoring it...

Something is very wrong with these numbers. They can't be right. A failure around 20% makes the 360 a flaming turd. If they were around 500-600 it would be more plausible. Still, any stories about legal action against microsoft by customers?

there used to be tons of stories of legal action when the 360 1st came out.... dont think its much you can do though if the company offers a warranty on it.. but im not sure..
