Forums - Nintendo - Does Game Informer hate the Wii?

I don't buy video game magazines for their opinions. I couldn't care less about their opinions. The only thing I care about is information. So, whoever brings the best information to the table has the best magazine. So far in my experience that's been EGM. Oh, and for the record, I hate Wii too, but that's because I like hardcore games and Wii has next to none.

Game Informer hates the player, not the game

Everyone hates the best...

I don't think its because wii is the best (I assume you mean in first place) that the gaming media hates them; after all, there was plenty of love for PS2 last gen. I think it is for several reasons...

First of all, Nintendo has been telling the media they won't play the media's game since before this generation began. Remember all the interviews in 2005 and 2006 where various interviewers begged Nintendo to tell them the specs of the Wii, and Nintendo continually refused?

Second of all, is the fact that the some members of the media keep making fools of themselves with their predictions of doom and gloom for Nintendo. Rather than look inward for the reasons they were wrong, they get mad at Nintendo (and in some cases allow that anger to drive them to make more predictions against Nintendo; rinse, repeat)

Third is the fact that Nintendo is building a customer base that doesn't need the game media; casual players don't read reviews, or any gaming news. A big part of Nintendo's base buy their games the same way they bought the wii in the first place - based on word of mouth.

Finally, is the fact that Nintendo's customer base isn't delivering a story the way a hardcore base would. I think the game media liked the fact that big games now lauch like big movies open - with big fanfare and big earnings right away. Games can be declared success or failures within a week - unless those games are wii games, with few hardcore fans knowing to show up on day one, but enormous word of mouth sales much much later.

So in summary, the media hates Nintendo because they have been made to look like fools, and because Nintendo is following a path that makes then irrellevant.

You know, I remember now that Nintendo would not supply GI with stuff super early for a preview -- and they poked fun about it then.

So welcome Astrosmash -- you are definitely on to something.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I think that they hate the Wii also.

Im glad i found this threa, because thats exactly what i was thinking.

FIrst they quote SUda 51 about NHM crappy sales in Japan (the Wii isnt for core games), but they DO NOT quote him again or even address the fact that he retracted his staement, and tha he is pleased with the sales. They gave the game one of its lowest scores btw.

Then theres the crappy sales article a couple months back. One of there biggest arguements was that a huge game like Brawl, only tappest a bit of the Wii user base. The DO NOT say that it wasnt released in EU (at the time) or that the game was just released in America a few weeks back.

And of course the reviews (and lack of previews).

I still have a couple months left in my subscription, but i dont plan on renewing it. NP gives me enough Wii news.

Oh, and someone said that NP wouldnt cover M rated games, they covered NMH and Castlevania Judgement and Madworld a few months ago. And the used them as cover storys.

Nintendo Power?

well, that's true. In a BAD way.

They have definetely gone down hill.

Agreed... Nintendo Power hasn't been relevant for me since the late 90's.  They became a total waste when they changed their whole image and became more kiddy and wouldn't even cover M-rated titles.

Well, the last few years Nintendo Power has started using the occasional naughty word and showcasing reader's Nintendo tatoos. Are they cool enough for you now?

But on topic, Game Informer is irrelevant after the Paper Mario 2 fiasco.

mm i dont care i losed my interest on the wii, not on nintendo still love mario zelda metroid but i really hate the wii had no option just had to sell it 8(

I stopped reading videogame magazines because the "journalists" are nothing but a bunch of hardcore gamers with the mentality of a 13 year old and have d***s instead of brains. They hate the wii because there's no Metal gear of GTA or other pseudo-mature game. The idea of seeing moms and girls playing is an abomination to them and is happening with the wii. So far, I don't know any one that makes me think the contrary.

Game Informer hates the Wii, we had a thread about it before and Viper1 (I think) had some interesting things to say.

Thanks for the nod.

It's well established that GI formulates their news, reviews and editorials around a specific target audience.  Even if a reviewer likes a game but it doesn't match their target audience, they'll give it a lower score.  Reviewers have openly admitted to the practice.

They also hold a grudge against Nintendo for not receiving early review copies as a response by Nintendo to their bias.

Yeah that was me lol... i was talking about back when i used to subsribe to them in the late 90's early 00's and they started scaling back their coverage of M-rated titles for N64 and GC games... for example no mention or review of Conker's Bad Fur Day when it was originally released, and every other issue was basically Pokemon this and Pokemon that LoL.  Haven't picked up a NP magazine since i used it to get a copy of the Zelda Collector's edition in '03

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
