Europeans pay much higher prices for consoles than the NA region. The main corporations take the Europeans for a ride. Europeans are willing to pay high prices without a murmur.

And it's still $312/$421/$578 when the US is $279/$299/$449.
For the model in question (The $299), that's a 40% premium in Europe even considering the recent Europe pricecut.
@Soleron: Did you read my post? You just made at least one of the mistakes I mentioned...

Teach em what? Not to buy consoles anymore. |
This has got to be the funniest thing ever on vgchartz threaten a price hike. There i repeat never has been a price hike in the history of consols and pcs as far as i know. New sku doesn't count. I doubt they will keep it out of Europe seeing they said they are phasing out the 20 gig.
Love is whats most important.

Speaking as a European: "Overpriced" is relative... Does the current weakness of the US dollar entitle everyone else in the world to an equivalent price cut? I don't think so, especially considering that manufacturing is not necessarily paid for in US dollars. Another two important things are: 1- People doing currency conversions usually forget to account for taxes, which are included in European prices but not in USA's prices. 2- In many EU countries, all electronics have a warranty of 2 years by law, which isn't the case in USA. To be sure, European gamers do pay more for hardware and software, but the difference is not as big as most naive comparisons make it seem.

Actually, in Canada we used to have to pay about $50 more per console and $10 more per game, but once our dollar became on par with the American one, our prices were lowered to match theirs.

Depends where you live. Plenty of places in the US don't have sales tax. And as those that do have varying rates from place to place it's impossible to include it in calculations.

What the hell are you talking about we got that price cut about 3 or 4 months ago - remember arcade 199€ 20gig 270€ and elite 360€.
Compare that to the Playstation pricing 400€ - 400$ for a PS3. With current exchange rates that's a difference of about 57%, that europeans have to pay more. Sony fucks Europe and has always, why did we get the ps3 almost half a year later than the US and Japan if we are clearly their most important market - without B/C?

You must have misunderstood my post. You don't have to do anything with US's prices as those already do not include sales tax. It's the European prices which have to be recalculated in order to do a fair comparison.
Of course, in Europe sales tax also varies by country, but most countries average around 20% from what I know (Scandinavian countries are more, UK is a bit less, but 20% seems like a good number to use in a rough calculation). This means dividing European prices by 1.2 to get the pre-tax amount (and this still doesn't account for the warranty issue).

It doesnt make financial sense for MS to NOT bring the 60GB to Europe. Unfortunatly NewEgg no longer offers laptop HDD below 80GB (Except a high end 60GB). The lowest cost being $52.99. Recently though they had offered as low as 40GB and the 40GB was more expensive to purchase than the 60GB or the 80GB offered at the same time. If MS wanted 20GB units then they would have to pay a premium from manufacturers to produce them special for MS.
So cost of HDD
20>40>60>=80
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
