Forums - Microsoft - Halo 3 as good as they say?

Halo 3 is a blast. After 1,000 matches, it hasn't lost it's fun.

I'm still decidin between gettin a ps3 or 360, and so far I've already tried and refunded a 360, and now I'm trying a ps3. I made the mistake of getting Gta4 with the 360, and while it was a good game with a long-lasting singleplayer, I thought the online play was really bad, and because of that the game only lasted me about 2 weeks.

I heard Halo3's singleplayer was abit short, but how's the online? Being a former PC gamer, the 16-player limit on most console games seems really weak. GTA4 didn't even have an option to pick your own multiplayer server, which I reaaally hated. Can you find your own servers in Halo3? And if so, is it easy to find a 16-player match? I've never played any other console game online besides Gta4 so I don't have a good idea of how most online console gaming is.

I also read about Forge, which sounds really good. Can you change the default weapon you start with, and restrict specific weapons? I only barely remember playing Halo1-2 in splitscreen, and sometimes the grenade-whoring got old really fast. The main thing I never liked about any of the Halo's though is how high you can jump - is that something you can change in Halo3's multiplayer?

Ok I'll try and answer all your question point by point.

Halo 3 Campaign- The campaign can be relatively short based on the difficulty but there is alot of replay value based off of playing up to 4 player co-op, finding all the skull and finding all the terminals. Once you find the skulls you can also change the way the campaign is played by turning certain functions on or off.

Halo 3 Matchmaking- In this mode you can go in with a party of friends into a series of preset playlists, each with its own limit on the number of players and specific gametypes. These range from purely objective based playlists all the way to 8v8 matches in big team slayer. There are also unranked playlists that you can go into if your not very into the competitive scene. Also the limited number of players allowed in Halo is due to Halo simply being a game that works better with smaller numbers. Unlike some other shooters, Halo is alot of action from the get-go, so even in 4v4's your not going to ever be standing around doing nothing.

Halo 3 Customs- This is where you can make your own custom games changing the rules however you see fit. With forge you can make your own maps which people can download from you while giving you the option to download anyone elses maps. In your custom game you can change almost anything you could think of, heres a small list: gravity, player speed, starting weapons, colours, weapons on map, grenades on map. Also in Halo 3 you can only hold 2 grenades maximum of any type (there are 4 types). Unfortunately as of now there is no function to search for custom games amongst people not in your friends list.

Extra Features- One of the most innovative feature of Halo 3 (for a console game) is the ability to record entire games and view the games from any angle: first person, free cam, third person. You can also save film clips if theres only a small part of the game that interests you. Another option is that you can take screenshots in game by using the camera to give you any shot you want.

Overview- Sorry for the long post but honestly everything I wrote up there isn't even close the full options available in the game. Halo is the type of game where you love it or hate it, most people seem to love it. If your getting a 360 I would highly recomend this game. If you have anyother questions I could answer please ask. If you ever get the game send me a friend request and I'll show you around the game- Rellik2172

Whoa ur a former PC gamer and ur going to console FPS games wtf dude :O Well that is coming from me. If fps games for the console supported mouse and keyboard I might hop on but I think maybe 1 or 2 games might support that. Also I would like to say CoD4 is way better then Halo 3 for multiplayer even if its for console :D

It is very good the AI was brilliant in it.

That statement very debatable and in most cases plain wrong... COD4 is a refined version of rainbow 6/coutnerstrike and is great as well but halo 3 destroys COD4 online. The Vehicle, the Carnige, powerups, the STICKY GRENADES!!!!!... none which are found in COD4...make a huge differnce.

It really stands at your own standpoint of gameplay. Also I don't like how you compare CoD in anyway to Rainbow or counterstrike. If anything the first original CoD was more like WW2 with the quake engine that had that feel it was quake but in WW2 and no insane weapons and such. Which pretty much they stuck with that feel throughout the games that Infinity Ward has made. To be honest vehicles were added CoD United offensive for PC and that was a mistake(luckily not by Inifinity Ward :D). CoD was always about the soldier aspect. They learned that and never brought it back for a good reason. You say Carnage is not in COD??? Try 32 players with air strikes, helicopters etc. Stick grenades pfft how about you being able to pull pin hold grenade and throw it into someones face so that they can't avoid? Or how about throwing C4 and blowing up it instantly in someones face. Any game will have carnage and also learn to the spell Carnage by chance. Power ups? Its called perks and you can customize that to your own play style. Do some research next time before you compare.

HALO 3 is a WASTE OF MONEY. All Halo 3 is is a $60 expansion pack. It can't hold a candle to Halo 2. I played Halo 2 like the entire gaming industry was going to stop the next week. Halo 3? I played for a month, then traded it in at GameStop.

I'm not saying you should get one machine or the other. In terms of potential, I'd say PS3. In terms of right now, 360 I guess. I still think the PS3 is a much better value at $400 than the 360 would be even at $300. Think about it..360 is $349 correct? So after you buy your wireless adapter, that's $449. After you pay for a year of XBL, that's $500. After you buy a controller charger, that's $550. With PS3, you get wireless built in, playing online is 100% free (minues map packs), and it comes chargeable. The only thing you'd want is a little longer of a USB cable to charge the controller, but the way I dealt with that was by using 2 controllers and just charging one at a time. Also, the XMB is 100 times more user-friendly than the XBOX Dashboard in my opinion, and the XMB moves 100 times faster. XBOX is supposed to be making changes though, but based on what I know of MS, they're going to make it look nicer, but it's going to be glitchy, it's going to work slow, they're going to have massive online issues when the new Dashboard update is released. Seems like every big update or huge release, things start going haywire. But hey..Vista turned out soooo good, why should we doubt the 360? =/

The PS3 also has Blu-Ray - which isn't a reason to buy it IMO, but it's a nice perk. And you can also use almost any headset you want as long as it's USB or BlueTooth.

I get a huge kick when people say the PS3 is more expensive. It's much cheaper. After 2 years, you'll have spent about $200 more on your 360 than you would a PS3, AND by that time PS3 will have much better games.

But, like I said, in terms of right now the 360 has the better library and larger online community. It depends on how long you want your console to last, and how worried you are that technical problems will arise.

I never have nor ever will get the appeal of playing FPS games on the PC. I find hitting the ctrl button to shoot or pointing with the mouse to be really lame. As for Halo 3...it is as good as they say.

IT's really overrated, but that doesn't stop it from being a lot of fun.

the single-player is just average, multiplayer is where it's at, and if you can get 3 other people together in a room you are bound to have a good time.

Halo 3 has the best local multiplayer of any game on the HD systems, and that's why you should get it.
