and I agree that they should hype up some games to sell well.
i share bigjon's point of view
its true Miyamoto will never compromise on the quality of the game to meet some deadline.im not even sure anyone at Ninty can give Miyamoto a deadline
but that doesnt mean they cant release a teaser or something like that for the game. it doesnt even have to be gameplay footage. just giving us a glimpse of what is coming is good enough, but they didnt even do that.

That's exactly the kind of mentality that led people to deem Twilight Princess somehow inferior to Ocarina of Time, in spite of doing absolutely everything better than Ocarina of Time, BBC. Seriously. People had overly high expectations of TP because, for YEARS before it even came out, we were getting press releases and screenshots of it. And by the time it was released, everybody was expecting some sort of world-shattering experience that was entirely unparalleled and impossible to surpass. Do you really want to see that happen again? Do you really want to get your expectations up to insanely unrealistic levels, only to have them come crashing down and leading you to declare a fantastic game as "inferior"?
Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

As far as the hype argument goes... who really think Brawl would have sold like it did without uber hype... Same with Halo 3, If microsoft would have been like oh yea.... Halo 3 is coming out in THREE months there would have been no time for the hype to permeate though the gaming hemisphere.
Also hyping games sells systems in advance. I am sure many of your purchases of a Wii were influenced by a game name Brawl.
I think not announcing a game more than 1 year ahead is good, but It take at least 9 months for the hype to fully build...
Really when it comes down to it, I am cool with Zelda being the big 09 title, I am going to be very busy this fall anyways, but I want to see it. I want to hype myself up for it. But I will not do that until I see it. (has flashback of when I hype myself for Zelda after spaceworld 2000... then the near suicide (not really) when I saw toon link)
End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)
Wii- 72 million 3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases
360- 37 million Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak
PS3- 29 million Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
I never really got the backlash against Wind Waker's style. It reminds me a lot of Link to the Past, to be honest. And people certainly love that game, from all the fan-based hype I hear over it. It just makes no sense to me why anybody would hate a return to that style when Zelda fans always seem to be crying out for a return to the old style. Sometimes I think that Zelda fans give themselves overly unrealistic expectations on purpose just so they can be disappointed...
Anyway, I'm not going down that road. Each Zelda is a new game to me, not burdened by ludicrous expectations or unrealistic desires to simultaneously see a return to "the way things were" and a leap forward beyond anything ever seen before. I'm sick of that way of thinking. It only leads to entirely unwarranted disappointment, and cheapens a perfectly good game experience with questions of why Nintendo didn't go above and beyond standards that no game company save Nintendo can even meet to begin with.
Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

I want a zelda game like majora's mask. The level of detail in the world of MM is amazing. Also the story has deep themes. Hopefully they will make a MM like zelda.
If they had shown the footage sooner the backlash would not have happened.
But since they did NOT show early footage people were expecting the Twilight Princess look. Based upon what they had seen at spaceworld.
This instance by itself show why not showing footage can be deadly. I still don't really like WW, but I liked PH... I think that art style works better on handhelds.
The same thing would happen if they showed Kid Ic and it was a puzzle game... It might be the best puzzle game in the history of the world but people already have expectations.

Wait wait wait. Let me get this straight. You based your opinions of Wind Waker... solely on the graphics? How shallow is that? If you're going to dislike Wind Waker, at least dislike it for reasons that make sense. Like the tedious sailing, the theme of making you repeat the same tasks hundreds of times over in a row, and the forced return to an over-complicated dungeon multiple times. Even if the game had Twilight Princess-style visuals, the problems listed above would still be very much present, after all.
Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

Not the graphics, the style. The style sets the tone of the game for me. Don't get me wrong WW was beautiful... they should have created a new IP and used that style.
WW did not feel like LttP. PH did more, and I think that had to do with the more overhead view.
There are 2 Zeldas I did not finish... 1 being WW, and the other being LA
