Great News.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
Final Fantasy IV was one of my favorite RPGs for the longest time. I was going to buy it anyway, but now this makes it a first day purchase. The characters of FFIV were some of the best of the series. I can't wait to see what kind of depth the new content adds. Maybe we will learn more about Cecils father, or more about Kains father. Maybe you'll get to play as Rydia in the Land of Summoned Monsters before you are found by the others. Or maybe you'll get the chance to play as Golbez and FuSoYa as they battle their way towards Zemus. So many possibilities and as you can see I'm obviously excited about them.

So this is not only getting a graphical upgrade, but more story, too?
Impressive. FFIII DS I enjoyed, and I certainly will pick up FFIV DS, as well. Is there a release date for this yet?

The Greatest Game Ever Conceived On Any Platform
Tag: "I have tasted Obi-Wan's bitter tears"
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but please read more closely. The game is not going to be four times the length of the original (that would be insane; Final Fantasy 2/4 was a fairly lengthy game). Square simply plans to add more dialogue that was cut from the original release way back when. I suspect that they are somewhat exaggerating the new content as well; even double the original dialogue would mean an enormous amount of new text to add.
I could see this being a really good thing if handled correctly - or it might be not so hot. (I personally do not care for large amounts of speech/cut-scenes/cinematics, just because I prefer to play the games rather than watch them.) Regardless though, it's an exciting announcement nonetheless. I could never play Final Fantasy 2/4 on anything other than the SNES (still own the cartridge!) but it's great to see new/younger gamers get the chance to experience it again.
End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)
Sullla, FF4 wasn't lengthy, at least not by RPG standards. FF4 was 20 hour game. The first time I beat the game it took me 24 hours and that was only because I got stuck and couldn't figure out what to do next. I had a FF4 obsessed friend speed run the game in 6 hours.

It says "some" of the content will be put back in, not all of it. And it says it's script, not gameplay length, which usually involves addition of long sidequests and such.
it really isn't accurate to measure the length of a game by a speedrun. Speeddemosarchive has many RPGs up, and almost all of them clock in between 4 and 6 hours. Oddly, the longest one is Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door.
So yeah, most square RPGs are about the same length, which is to say, as long as you want to screw around and play them.
Witty signature here...
Wii: 14 million by January I sold myself short
360: 13 million by January I sold microsoft short, but not as bad as Nintendo.
PS3: 6 million by January. If it approaches 8 mil i'll eat crow Mnn Crow is yummy.
With these results, I've determined that I suck at long term predictions, and will not long term predict anything ever again. Thus spaketh Crono.
I am thinking of picking up a DS and I will most def. play this game over if it has 4x the content. The game was awesome.
I just wish they do not throw Tellah at the FF garbage can like they did on the original. Tellah saves the day and the heroes forget about him in 10 minutes.

Awesome. This is my first FF and RPG I played, so I'm really glad to hear this.
This game has awesome replay value, as I've been through it at least 10 times. As long as they keep the "Spoony Bard" quote, I'm good.
Maybe the Edge/Rydia story will develop more - at least humorously.
I hope we can choose party members toward the end. I've always wanted Yang instead of Edge, but the rest of the party is fine.
Rydia = Best Summoner EVER!
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
