Little good it did them Sonata, Blue Dragon, Odessy all have faield to make the 360 in a viable gaming platform in japan.

MS went balls out for less then 20% of the worlds makret and failed, Sonys going for the 80% and is succeeding.

When were jrpgs "sonys" strength ? id say action orienteed games and racers always were and still are Sonys strength.

They know Japan belongs to the Wii but they'll definitely be in 2nd as the 360 can't touch them there. In Europe they're beating the far cheaper 360 so it seems secure as well. NA is where the battle is*. They've had the momentum as of late but they want to keep it rolling and ensure MS doesn't fight back. And FPS are hot right now so the western crowd will eat it up.

My only problem is with the recent obsession at overcrowding the multiplayer arena. R2 is doing 60 players IIRC. MAG says 256. Hardware 2 wants 50 vs. 50 or 100 man FFA.

Call me outdated but I like the intimacy of a smaller 2v2 or 4v4. When you know everyone else playing at the moment and communicate well with them. I've spent hundreds of hours playing Halo 2 in such smaller settings and I hope we at least have the option to keep smaller team matches going.

*Edit - I meant the battle with the 360 is more heated in NA. Others seems to be where the hot battle for Wii vs. PS3 will end up.

The only people who have declared Sony the winner in Europe is Sony themselves. On this very website you're posting on, they still haven't shown to be caught up to the Xbox 360 yet in Others. In fact, when Sony announced they had passed the 360 in Europe, the general industry response from their competitor and from the gaming media was, "Has Sony checked the numbers recently?"

I'm not saying that they won't catch up in Europe, I'm just saying they haven't yet.

Cod4 did +9 million, Halo3 8 million, Gears 5 million, Resistance 3 million (cant argue sales) its the top selling genre ain't it.

Xbox death that what up with so many shooters, the only thing the x has is shooters and online. Sonys out to destroy their only strengths.

..and RPGs, and JRPGs, and Racing games, and action games, and puzzle games, and platforming games(even if only a little bit here), and....

360 has more JRPG's no doubt, although the PS3 has more in the way of SRPG's.

But they are more or less par in other genre's. The 360 has a bigger library because of time on the market, but the PS3 still has a wide variety of games to choose from. MGS4, Uncharted, Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Motorstorm, R&C, Warhawk etc. is a pretty decent variety. Then with games like LittleBigPlanet, Siren, Valkyria Chronicles, Eternal Sonata and Afrika coming out , the variety gets a bit better as well.

Ok, fair enough.  I stand corrected.  I'm looking at Others as a total and not specifically Europe.

But just to add to my above comments, I'm also sick of people saying that Sony owns the Japan market.  Nintendo owns the Japan market.  When you put everything in perspective, both HD consoles are selling like crap in Japan while the Wii sells like hot cakes.  The 360 is only sitting at just above a half million units, which was to be expected.  But the PS3 is only sitting at about 2.5 million units, and that is absolutely PATHETIC for a Sony console in Japan.

I simply do not accept people using the Japan market as an argument for the PS3's eventual dominance.  It's simply ridiculous.  In fact, it's almost as ridiculous as Sony and all the Sony followers claiming their dominance over the world when they're still in 3rd place.  Don't tell me they're going to catch up and dominate the universe, thus rendering all other platforms "dead".  I've been reading that crap since the PS3 launched, and if any of it had come true, the PS3 would have done all those things by now.  It hasn't.  Could it eventually?  Yes.  Will it?  Probably, maybe not.  Fanboys can't predict the future any better than "analysts".

No I understand "Others" as a whole is still more MS than Sony but when I said "beating" I meant on a weekly sales basis.  That combined with a small overall lead (a little over half a million) means PS3 should take "Others" soon enough.  That's what I meant when I said "it seems secure".

Edit: And I don't know if that last post about Japan was directed at me at all but I did say above:

There is no way sony could do anything to make ps3 a better fps console than 360. Doesn't matter howmany games they release...the online is still better on 360 accross the board and they can;t touch that with pumping out more titles.

MAG osounds promissing but with the sony tendancy to over promisse and jsut lie about future titles and system specs...I am not holding my breath.

the flood of Sony hate is phenomenal since E3. Eventually, the xbots will loose interest though, as they always do... until next E3.

Anyways, there definitely are a lot of FPS's, I find this a little bit confusing since Killzone 2 (the major one that Sony has hyped beyond belief) is just around the corner.

But if you think about the release dates, they wont be right on top of one another. Every 3 months on average, a top tier shooter will come out only for the PS3. and they lead in every other genre to, except for RPG's.

I find it amazing that XBOX has gone so drastically for the RPG's. It is a good and diverse genre to focus on, but the sales don't have the stability that Sony's shooters will have.

I love new exclusive franchises, the possibilities of them at this point in the console life cycles is very important.

Team ICO's project, MAG, Heavy Rain.
Those are very important to the success of Sony.

I believe the idea with Japan is that there is at least the potential for strong growth for the PS3, whereas with the 360 there is little to none.

I'm actually curious as to how LBP will do in Japan.

true MS failed in Japan even with some Japanese games and i dont think they will get any success in Japan this gen, but if PS3 had those game it would've helped it in Japan.

I understand, and please know I'm not really attacking your comments specifically.  I've just gone off on a tangent about things I'm tired of hearing about the PS3 that aren't necessarily true.

I really don't have anything against any of the consoles.  I just think it's foolish to assume that the PS3 will eventually dominate the way the PS2 did.  Sony assumed that and look where it got them.
