@Kn, they connected me with a supervisor as well...without me even asking at that. Did they have a rep. call you after you placed the repair call? I have a personal rep. thats giving me updates on the process. He also assured me that the units are all being updated and returned with new hardware just as the supervisor told you. Oh and just an fyi, the rep. called yesterday and told me there is about a 4-5 day delay at the repair center. So your repair might take a lil longer than expected.

The initial lady I talked to just asked if I'd like to speak with a supervisor.  I said, "Sure".  She warned me there woudl be quite a wait and it was -- 30 minutes or so -- but they didn't say anything about a personal rep or anything like that.  I was actually very nice on the phone.  Perhaps if I had been agressive they would have done so but with 3 consoles and literally 30+ games sitting here in the living room, I'm in no realy hurry.  The whole affair is more humerous than anything as I've had all these failures and until now none were RROD.

@DJ, he said there would be an Ultra model and that the other models would be pushed "down in price".  Perhaps the 60 gig will be entry level, current elite as the "premium" and an Ultra with something more.  Other than that, he didn't offer any details and this is, after all, a supervisor at a repair center and I'm not certain he'd be totally "in the loop" when it comes to MS's future console plans...  I'll take it with a container of salt.

Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

My first Xbox 360 RRoD'd as I was reaching a 'cliffhanger moment' in Mass Effect... I got a new one so fast I kinda forgot the old one was still under warranty...

Anyway, here's hoping your new Xbox 360 will do better. One of them just has to keep working ;)

This is the biggest reason why I am looking at PS3 as a potential 2nd console instead of 360. The whole reason I play on consoles is because I expect those console to NOT break down. I still have my original NES console and it takes a bit of work to get the cartridges to read, but it does still play.

Get a Jasper unit and don't worry about it.  Yeah, it seems that it's more likely for a 360 to break down than a PS3, but you'd be missing out on some fun games and a growing library of discount stuff that is really great...  I have all three consoles and if I could only have ONE of the three, I'd still choose the 360 as it has a great library of older, bargain titles, current awesomeness, and a healthy catalog of future games.  The PS3 certainly has a solid catalog going forward but I'm a cheap ass and I like bargain games.  This is precisely why I wanted a PS3 with backward compatibility as I can play PS2 bargains like FFXII, Shadow of Colossus, Norrath, and so on....

Well the first one I got was the arcade. And after realizing I want a hard drive(and that price cut was coming) I decided to sell it and wait for price cut.

So I bought premium as soon as price cut kicked in.

Unfortunately the Premium I got was Gen 1 xbox...it didn't have HDMI. But I was using component cables for better or worse.

So last week when the price went down and future shop had a sale of xbox 360 with gears and unreal 3 for 299 I sold my 360 with 3 games I didn't like for 300 and bought this instead.

Brand new, Gen 3 xbox with HDMI. :)

That should be a logical explanation for most, don't think I work for microsoft or anything.

Has anyone else ever had a fake TRL? Since owning the console i've mostly only had to deal the occasional game ruining freeze-up, but on two occaisions the thing wouldn't start up at all and promptly got TRL. After drinking a beer and venting for a bit while planning to call msoft, i tried it again and it worked each time.

I wonder if Microsoft include all of the replacement models they send out in their yearly sales....

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Uh, no.  That would be fraud and the SEC wouldn't be pleased.

Well, I got my 360 back today. They took longer than they said. No biggie, though, as I was playing on the PS3...

Interesting observations: The manufacture date is 6/30/08. That's friggin new, given the time it takes to get into the channel. It does NOT have an HDMI port. It has a 203W power supply. It is obviously brand new as there is NO WAY it could have gone out, failed, shipped back, refurbed, and sent back out again in a month...

So, what's inside? I can't tell very well as it's hard to see through the holes -- even with a flashlight. From what I CAN see, it's different than my last "updated" console. The row of black capacitors that you look across to see the second heat sync (and the little button end from the cooling tube) is different. There are less capacitors, they are taller, and they are gold. Secondly, the CPU heat sync has a label on it that has a serial number and a "rev b" mark. I don't recall seeing that on any of my previous consoles. In general, it seems "different" inside but I don't have photos handy for comparison.

Given my luck with the console (this being #6), I'm not about to tear it open to see what's inside and void my warranty...
