Okay here's the thing, I am trying to figure out the market shares for previous console generations and I can't figure out how to do it! Does anyone know an equation that will help me with this? I am trying to figure out what percent of the market each system had. HELP!!!!

Or, if you want to do it yourself and tell me, that's cool, I guess. Here are the figures (rounded up to the nearest whole number)

PS2 - 140 million

Xbox - 24 million

GameCube - 22 million

Dreamcast - 11 million

Market share is easy to calculate. You add together all values, then divide the total number of systems a single system sold by the total number of systems sold for that generation. This will give you a decimal number that's below 1 (or possibly exactly 1, but that would mean that you had only 1 data point). Just move the decimal place back 2 digits and there you go. That's your percentage.

I'll calculate one for you now:

Total market: 140 + 24 + 22 + 11 = 197

Dreamcast: 11 / 197 = 0.05583 (5.58%)

You add all the numbers together then divide. You're left with a decimal, but I'm sure you know how to convert to percents.

Playstation 2 - 71%
XBOX - 12%
Gamecube - 11%
Dreamcast - 6%

I really don't know why you have to be good with math to figure this out :O I was expecting some crazy stuff like a 2nd order linear homogeneous equation or something. O well at least it answered easily :P
I will add to skyrender equation here multiply 100 to make it more simple :D

Dreamcast: 11 / 197 = 0.05583 X 100 = 5.58%
