Fat Princess

Ugh.

A new game about to be released for the PSN called Fat Princess is a TF2-like capture-the-flag game where the point is to feed your princess enough cake so that she grows really fat so that the opposing team can’t carry her back to their castle.

Honestly, the “core game mechanics” are brilliant, and if I didn’t care one whit about the objectification of women or fat-bashing, I would think this was the best thing since… well, Team Fortress 2. And I’m quite sure that this describes 99% of the PSN players out there, so I’m sure the game will do very well.

But here is another game mechanic:

Instead of running out into the forest to find cake to fatten up the princess with, why not go out and find gold (which is a lot heavier than cake) to stuff into a treasure chest. The more gold in the chest, the heavier it would be, and the harder it would be to carry.

Oh, but that’s not as “cute” as cake and fat chicks. Right.

So how about layering, Karamari-style, a bunch of random shit on top of the chest, like shrubbery, rocks, bison, etc, that would also weight it down. That could be cute, and silly, and not reinforce nasty stereotypes about women and the obese.

It’s a shame, I really liked where the “let’s design our own game” was going. It’s too bad the fanboys hate games so much they had to disrupt it.

I'm not seeing anything anti-male there.

It probably would of been better had it been a chest or something else like a cow or something... but whatever, i'm not going to worry about it much. Of course i'm skinny... and not a women.

Of course it'd also be great if Mario had some motivation other then saving Peach every game too.

Refering to the trolls as boys, and talking about how they have to be cleaned up after.  It's a common thing for people who make a big fuss about the bigotry of little things to be some of the most bigotted people.  Her wording reveals her true feelings towards men, it's not about empowering women but, is instead, about belittling men.

I don't see any bigotry there...

Trolls do act like little kids that need to be cleaned up for... I mean have you seen this site?  The trolls here prove that.

It's the irony of her choice of words.  I am not taking sides on the game. Just like with RE4, I see the problem and I don't care.

It's a common over-zealous anti-male (who claims to be a feminist) thing to talk about cleaning up after men and calling them little boys.  She gets all up in arms over "princess" and negative conotations of the male as the protector of the female, but then  uses "boys" and uses an equally contraversial social stigma that men always need to be cleaned up after by women. 

The difference is that the game is meant in good humor, she means it to be hurtful.

Am I offended? No.  I am just pointing out that she is not a feminist, but is a hateful, bigotted, unhappy person.

There is some truth to both constructs of our society.  Men are the ones who get to go check the noise and change the tire next to a dangerous highway and women are unfairly expected to clean up. It isn't a sociological study though, meaning feminism is irrelevant to the argument of whether the game is appropriate or not.  These traits aren't inherent in every male and female.

The game uses common archetypes to make the premise familiar.  She uses these traits to demean.

I wonder if she would have been happier with skinny princess?

Well, who likes fat princesses anyway?

Thats the primary reason I grew out of mario games. How many times do I have to save Princess Peach?
