*whisper*  buy dreamworks... buy dreamworks...

what i want nintendo to do:

- enter alliance with Disney to make movie-like interactive games

unlike what many enthusiasts proposes, the first successful foray of this type will result in CHILDREN movie/games.  to capture the imagination of adults will take longer convincing, but simple, elegant design and immerisve experience will certainly win over hearts of children.

and what better company than Disney and Nintendo joining hands on this collaborative effort?

-  WiiPhones, DSPhones

much less ambitious... is making WiiPhones right on the Wii.  VOIP is already here, Wiimotes and DS both have speakers, so Nintendo can just cash in by releasing an accessory.  nintendo can release more dedicated versions (better speakers) of the Wiimote or the DS to start moving the DS or the Wii into a staple consumer electronics product.

the implementation of WiiPhone (not DS Phone) is so straightforward nintendo could make such an annoucement tomorrow and i wouldn't be surprised.

DS Phone would be kind of like cell phones.  ideally, it would work in cities that provide free universal wireless.  which is... 10 years away at least.  of course.

-  WiiTV

difficult... apple has plans for its iTV.  a collaboration with Apple would be intriguing, but probably a pipedream.  in the ideal world, nintendo designs the hardware and games, apple figure out the music and content distribution.  as it stands, nintendo won't work on apple's hardware, apple won't stoop to using somebody else's hardware.  no collaborations possible--only possible way for this to happen would be a merger, which actually has an outside chance of happening. 1 in 50 i'd say.

the Wii is an epidemic.

The question is what are they going to do with all that money. Purchase more game development studios (They already got Monolith), increased R&D for future consoles? Will we see incredible graphics and much improved waggle next round? Or might they branch off into other markets and products as well?

There's no doubt that there'll be a lot of movement over at the Big N, I'm quite curious to see what direction it's in.

As they have done in the past, I doubt they will do anything (different) at all.

Bank the money, continue to invest it wisely for better returns - and continue to make quality games.

Their strategy aint broke, so why tinker with it?

(actually - the only I would do if I was them, is invest in their production chain - sure up Wii/DS production levels)

...

Imagine what would happen to their shares if they announce that their 2nd Wii manufacturer is now online, and within 2 months they will be generating 2m Wiis/month... (and they are starting up a 3rd..)

As I have said in a previous post I would love to see a Wii tv. One where you can insert your Wii into a built in slot. Said TV would then have plugs in the TV itself for things like usb, Gamecube controllers, built in motion sensor bar, and whatever other ports there were in the Wii. The tv would be built for a completely seemless Wii insertion. The TV would be Wii colored, 30" widescreen, flatscreen tv. That is my idea of heaven on a Wii.

Keep in mind Nintendo has announced that they were gonna make major hardware announcements at the upcoming E3. Shigeru Miyamoto seems to be allowed to make whatever the heck he feels like at Nintendo, which back in the SNES days he may not have had that power. And in the N64 - Gamecube days he didn't have the money.

They don't need to do anything different, that is the whole strategy for Nintendo, and it is the strategy that got Sony into trouble.  Sony may have thought they had money to burn because of the PS2, but it is far too much.  I'm sure Nintendo will make the graphics much better next gen, but hold onto the 250$ price.  I don't see why Nintendo would need more developers, they need to do what they are doing now and leave the rest to the 3rd parties.

Erm, Sony posted revenue's of 67 Billion this year. Not Sony Games division. Sony company. Sony all 5 divisions company. Movies, electronics, finance, games, other.

I'm not really suggesting that they abandon everything they've ever known. But the more money comes in, the more money can be spent(with allocations for the future of course). That's just kind of how things work. I'm not suggesting that that the recent success will send Big N's corporate strategy spiralling into the sun. But I'm sure that there will be more money going into Research and game development at the very least.

Sony made 123 billion yen net income (profit) compared to Nintendo's 174 billion.

Hmm, I appear to have misread part of the data. That and had a bad translation of Yen in my head. Makes sense.

Well, that makes the point I was going for entirely wrong.

Edit: Was curious as to why Nintendo's Total sales would be so Close to Sony's, had a very slow moment with translation of Yen (to the 69 billion dollars reported in their Americanized sheets) which essentially removed a decimal place, making Nintendo extremely close to total revenue with sony. Not quite the case. Hence, wrong.
