Forums - Nintendo - What Nintendo's Rift with the Hardcore Means for the Industry

I am sorry, but I agree with this article 100%. This is not targetted at you teenagers that have no real experience with Nintendo or games in general. This is aimed at the gamers like me that are late 20s, early 30s and have owned EVERY Nintendo system ever released. I just got done trading in my Wii with a huge game and accessory collection to purchase the PS3 MGS4 bundle. I have used my PS3 more in a month than I did my Wii in a year. I had every major game on the Wii and was bored with all of them after 1-2 hours.

There are exactly 0 real hardcore games on the Wii. SMG, Zelda, Metroid, etc are all too easy and casual friendly now to be considered hardcore. I have owned every system in this generation and actually almost every system ever released in the U.S.. The only systems I have not owned are Neo Geo and the 3D0 due to the outrageous price on them. I am now done with Nintendo for good. I have been a Nintendo fan and supporter for their entire history, but they have now gone too far with this casual crap. Wii Music is a complete joke and I will have no part of their crap anymore. I will get everything I want and more from having both the 360 and PS3. The Wii is a child's and non-gamers toy and those so-called core games you people are talking about are NOT core games at all. The problem is there are too many teenagers that wouldn't know a core game if it bit them on the ass that are still praising Nintendo on these forums.

The real gamers are playing the PS3 and 360...

@madkiller: That was a pretty good attempt at a joke post. I really like it.

Also, you own Rumble Roses XX. Yeah, you know what a core game is.

I guess I'm not a real gamer than ...

I own both a Wii and an XBox 360, and between the two I use the Wii far more as a gaming device and (of the games I have played) I would say the Wii has a far more original and enjoyable game line-up. Older gamers I know (in their late 20s and 30s) seem to favour the Wii because they have less time to devote to games, and (in many cases) find more enjoyment playing a game with their young children than with a bunch of strangers online.

The fact of the matter is your experience is not representative of people in general.

"If you don't like me, bite me!"

Almost no one on this thread seems able to acknowledge that the wii can have problems. I'm a ps3 fan, but I'm not blind, I know sony has problems and admit them every now and then but most wii fans are just amazing!

Wii Music? Animal Crossing? More peripherals? The wii is a lot of "fun"!

While I don't agree that the ps3 can really attract any wii fans who want another Mario, that article raises some good points. Everyone just blows them up like: "he's a sony/ms fan blah blah blah". I admire your "loyalty" truly.

Actually, I know many gamers just like me and none of them own a Wii. Most of the people I know think that owning a Wii is for kids and girlfriends.

So since you have a friend or two, your experience is representative of 6 Billion people on this planet?

The fact that you're not seeming to get is that a large portion of people who bought a previous generation console are buying the Wii, and its sales pattern (massive sales in an arbitrary month) generally goes against the assumption that it is being bought for children (or girlfriends); typically those gamers get a system like this as a gift (because they will probably not buy it themself) around a major holiday period.

People constantly talk about how the average gamer has aged (and is now in their 30s) but seem to forget that having children changes a persons values. The 28 year old student who calls people "Douchbag" is probably not that representative of the average gamer, who most likely has a full time career and children.

This is the one thing I don't understand.  I can understand all the 14 and 15 year olds running around laughing at other kids for owning a Wii and calling it "kiddy".  At that age they want to try to appear more mature and distance themselves from what they enjoyed as younger kids.

What I don't understand is the older people who still go around talking like that.  Are they still emotionally stuck in puberty and unable to grasp that a game without blood, gore, and sex can still be a valid option for entertainment?  Does a game need to be so hard you die 50 times a level for it to be considered a "game" and not just "casual crap"?

Oh no, another ban from 1 of a billion forums on the net. And in case you didn't notice, I don't post very often to begin with. But it amazes me that so many people are defending Nintendo and the Wii. I miss the old days when boys weren't such wussies and didn't like girlie crap like Kim Possible. When I was a kid we had real cartoons and manly toys, not wussie crap like Pokemon and Yugi Oh...
