So since you have a friend or two, your experience is representative of 6 Billion people on this planet?
The fact that you're not seeming to get is that a large portion of people who bought a previous generation console are buying the Wii, and its sales pattern (massive sales in an arbitrary month) generally goes against the assumption that it is being bought for children (or girlfriends); typically those gamers get a system like this as a gift (because they will probably not buy it themself) around a major holiday period.
People constantly talk about how the average gamer has aged (and is now in their 30s) but seem to forget that having children changes a persons values. The 28 year old student who calls people "Douchbag" is probably not that representative of the average gamer, who most likely has a full time career and children.
