I may be the only one here who thinks this, but why do all the HD games that are said to have good graphics (Mass Effect, Gears, Bioshock, etc.) have such odd looking visuals? When I say odd though, I mean shiny. Everything in these high end HD games looks like it was coated with clear nail polish or something. Everything has a reflection, and I think it makes the worlds look plastic. Does anyone feel this way?

I completely agree. I hate when games overuse this effect. Few developers have been able to be subtle enough with it.
CoD 4 and Dead Rising are a couple of games that managed to not use this effect, and they still have impressive tech.
It's not just HD. Xbox 1 games all overused this a lot, especially Fable and Halo 2. Fable 2 also appears to pile it on.
It's not a bad thing, it just makes the games look a little lazy.
This is a good topic. I comment on the shineyness of the graphics all the time, because usually it's unnecessary. I leave my contrast maxxed out(who doesn't?) and I'm constantly blinded by unnecessary next gen sheen in games like Overlord, and Assassin's Creed.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
