Wii Sports is More Fit than Wii Fit

by Andrew Clark (2008-07-22)

Have you been spending hours a day working out with Wii Fit, attempting to build enough arm strength to do twenty pushups and side-planks? Well according to fit gamer over at GamePeople, you have not only been wasting your time, but your money as well. After performing a rather extensive look into Wii Sports, it is in his opinion that Wii Sports does a better job both with the training and with the fitness tests than Wii Fit does. Claiming that the fun factor is more present in Wii Sports, it will keep you coming back as opposed to Wii Fit which will simply burn you out. He also did add that Wii Sports is by no means a substitution for actual exercise.

What do you guys think, does he have a point?

Personally without having used Wii Fit yet, I cannot comment. But in my opinioin I would say that while Wii Sports does have some exercise elements, it doesn't help with flexibility or tracking of weight loss. Both of these are good to have. I think he is just "Wii Fit Hating".

No point. Doesn't take long to learn in wii sports it is 99% wrist and timing which takes little work and so it doesn't help get you fit.  Although you can swing your arms, most of the time you don't have to.

I bet most casuals use their whole bodies when playing Wii Sports.

True, but I am betting this guy isn't a casual. I bet that he feels ripped off by buying Wii Fit and not getting what he wanted out of it. Now he is taking it out by saying that Wii Fit is less fit than Wii Sports.

Ok, doing crunches and push-ups alone is better than Wii Sports, so no, I don't agree. Add to that lunges and running in place and you have a decent (although not great) workout.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

wiifit imo is WAY superior than wiisports for getting fit.

Boxing- wiifit's is better, wiisports is just flailling with your arms while fit has you stepping, dodging etc.

while you can work up a sweat "faster" in sports boxing, the structure and overall package for cardio boxing in fit is better.

there is ZERO comparitive exercise for the hula or stepping or running in wiisports, not a one

there are no comparitive activities for the yoga in wii sports.

and there is nothing- NOTHING- that compares in wiisports that the pushup's and planks in fit do - NOTHING,

i played wiisports alot- tennis, baseball bowling alot ...when i started wiifit i could barely DO 6 pushup& planks...i am doing 20 now regularly, just from doing wiifit.

wiisports has zero accountability vs wiifit either...

Yeah, when I have friends over or parties at the house, I get people jumping into each other and walls, furniture, etc when they play Wii Sports tennis. My people are pretty dumb when they're drunk ;)

Dont mess with wii-fit. Many people here see that as the pinnacle of gaming thanks to its amazing storyline and quality graph-

-sorry no...wrong game

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

You should watch me when I play Wii Sports. I'm a total spazz when I play, but you'll never accuse me of not getting a workout. (I've been more careful ever since I pulled my shoulder from bowling).

I'll have to reserve judgment on Wii Fit until I can find one that's actually going for MSRP.
