Forums - Gaming - Rumor: CRysis coming to the ps3

Exactly, PCs already outclass consoles

Or *still* outclass consoles with regard to gaming (well at least it seems Oblivion on a high specced PC). Once game engines start to make use of the SPEs there are enormous oppertunities to outshine even top PCs with regard to game complexity and performance.

You could compare this with early Atari ST ports to the Amiga, being a little better on the Atari ST. But later down the road with developers taking advantage of the custom chips completely crushed anything the Atari ST could do with regard to game complexity and performance as well as audio and graphics.

1080p + 7.1 surround audio I think is good enough for the foreseeable future.

PS3 vs 360 sales

Of course, only MS console uses DirectX.
All other consoles use OpenGL and some other API instead.
So talking of DirectX for them is nonsense.

Yup! That is why its called an XBOX. Originally, it was supposed to be called DirectXbox, but I guess it sounds funny.

I really think that it will be just like FarCry, first the PC version than console versions, it just doesn´t make much sense to spread your efforts when its hard enough to program for one platform and seeing that MS made DirectX10 Vista only (way to go Gates) the chances for the 360 are better than the PS3 though they both will get a Crysis games just like Farcry, oh and how did we germans end up making such a popular game not based on cars or economy simulation ??? maybe where compensating for some firefight we lost in the past ?

Why are people still debating that Crysis can't look the same on consoles? I thought this was well known. Still, this doesn't mean there can't be a PS3 or 360 version of the game... I mean they need to make money and releasing the game on these consoles will probably make it sell a lot better than the version for high end PCs.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

This is my opinion as well.

 Give me a break.

The SPEs are similar to the shaders in GPUs, only a bit more flexible. They were never designed to do physics, AI, ect but graphics. Even if they were used for that role in conjuction with the RSX, you still couldn't get performance anywhere near an 8800 or 2900. By the time developers start to take advantage of the SPEs, chips like K8L will be matured and at a decent pricepoint.

But if you want to buy into the Sony hype, who am I to stop you?
