Forums - Nintendo - Wii Motion Plus - What were they thinking?

This is no different than when Sony introduced the original Dualshock. Lots of games required it for the new control options (like Ape Escape) and they alleviated the problem by making it the new standard controller.

The only difference here that I see is that Nintendo is offering a way for users of the current console to upgrade on the cheap, without having to shell out for new controllers.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

$100+ for a fully functioning controller FTW!

They were thinking that 1:1 rocks & they wanted to give it to us. Can't wait!

@Stats: You're aware it's going to be sold separately from WS Resort for about $5-$10, right?

I'll definately wait a while and see how the Motion Plus does before thinking about buying it.

I really think this is like any other peripheral, it will be used for a few games and that is all.

Will it be cool? Yes.

With Clone Wars to close to release, Nintendo just pretty much guaranteed another exclusive.

Will there be much else?
No.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I highly doubt it will cost that little and even if it did cost $10

44.99 + 24.99 + 9.99 + Tax = $90

still not exactly cheap

The added functionality is interesting but I'm disappointed that it a peripheal popping up almost two years after.

I'm a bit doubtful that such technology wasn't around a couple years ago, cause if it was new it would have some flaws and be costly.

In my opinion, this may have been part of their strategy, start with simpler controls than advance to more high-level tech once every masters the basics.

 Wii: 80-85 Million end of 2009 (1.1.09)

You guys do realize that Wii Sports Resort was the only title announced for 2009 at E3 by Nintendo right? The reason it is the only title talked about this far ahead of time is because they wanted to get it out there and in the hands of developers ahead of time. This argument that they didn't let the devs in soon enough is completely off base, they have to unveil it at some point and they don't have to let the devs know before the public..particularly when the devs are usually the source of the information leaks. They simply decided that when they handed it to the devs they would show it to the public. This way they got to control how it was presented at least.

There are plenty of other good reasons to have concern for the success of MotionPlus, but this is not one of them.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Sixaxis was a surprise to most developers as well. Most of them say it the same day we all did.
