Forums - Gaming - Do most still have a 2007 mindset (regarding FFXIII)

I just came home, and I saw this on my AIM:

xxxxxx (8:20:33 PM): oh wow good status message
xxxxxx (8:21:04 PM): ff is only going to be on xbox because they wouldnt have made any money putting it only on ps3
xxxxxx (8:21:09 PM): just like gta
xxxxxx (8:21:18 PM): and all those other former ps3 exclusives

Does ANYONE here still believe that any big budget PS3 exclusive won't make money? Last time I checked, MGS4 made PLENTY of money, but I think my friend here, and many others ignore that (or don't know about it) and continue to believe everything that went on in the first half of 2007

Well I'm sure your friend is an educated gamer with vast knowledge about sales and the industry, and his opinion likely reflects those of millions of different consumers.

Your sarcasm couldn't reflect what I was thinking any better. I actually fired off a LONG email in response, and basically said that he was ignorant of current 2008 trends in the gaming industry....those of which aren't the same as February 2007 when the PS3 wan't breaking 100k a month (NPD)

Funny thing is, though, I don't think he knows about game development (at least being able to discern 1st party from 3rd, cause all he does is pop games in and play them), so if I said something about Killzone 2 or LittleBigPlanet, and he found out about their budgets, he would swear they would eventually come to the 360 because they devs "wouldn't make any money on the PS3"

that really depends on how you are looking at it.   sure it will make some money...but would make a great deal more multi platform.   especially those games that dont share the same status as a MGS.

Every game known to man would make more if it was multiplatform. But exclusives aren't about spending tons of money, they're about showing that the hardware has appealing software that warrants the purchase of said hardware

I don't like it when the noobs are my friends.....first it was the one whose 360 died on him, so he was trying to find a cheap Elite, when I told him that the arcade/pros had the same hardware specs (reliability wise), then the one who wanted to get a 360, but I advised against getting a refurb premium (not pro), and he only got a 360 to play COD4, which at the time he thought wasn't even on the PS3, and now this. It irks me that the people that I surround myself with (because they were my good friends before the 360/PS3 existed on the market) are so ignorant, and take that ignorance and taunt me because I bought a PS3 and not a 360. It's not even like they're tyring to hurt my feelings, but rather, trying to say I made the wrong decision, even though they don't have the faintest clue of what they're talking about

Your last sentence is what first party software is for, not third party. Third party software is just there to make the most money they can.
