Hi,

I purchased this system yesterday and am having some issues with it. When I first booted it up, it froze at the end of the introduction video. I had to basically press the power button to reboot. I really didn't think anything of it, nor did I care.

Today my gf and I started to watch a movie and about an hour and a half into it, a message popped up saying "Attempting to read media". It pretty much hung there. I couldn't get to the movies main menu either, I had to eject the disc and pop it back in. The second time, it played a couple minutes further before the message popped up. I haven't had problems with games so far.

I googled it and the word on other forums is the drive is starting to go and that these read errors are only going to get worse. Has anyone had these experiences? Any advise? Is it something I should worry about? I have the console resting flat.

hmm this hasnt happened to me,try calling microsoft and see if they can give you any advice on how to fix it without needing to send it to them

It's brand new (FutureShop deal).  I confirmed with another member of this forum that it's the Falcon.

360 is very sensitive with movies. I have DVD's that'll play in any of my 5 other devices, but freeze on the 360. Any scratches are potential show stoppers. As for the Hard Drive video problem, I don't know what to say. Never seen that happen before.

Are you sure the DVD isn't scratched?

I'll return it if i were you, claim to futureshopdeal that it was defective out of the box, try to get a new one

Well, it's kind of a similar thing that happened to my friend when he bought a Pro. After booting it up for the first time, he couldn't open the disc tray. So, all he did was return it to the store and they replaced it for a Halo one. I guess he wasn't the first one to return it to the store though... -_-;

I personally would never use a 360 to watch movies. If you JUST got it, you might be able to return it to the store for a replacement. I would do that if it was me.

Hmmm. Sometimes my 360 gets disc read errors when playing games but it hasn't happened to me with movies. Have you tried different movie discs to confirm it's the drive and not the disc?
