Forums - Nintendo - I think i want a handheld...Why choose the DS?

hmm...I would say DS for the huge library of games..and the huge amount of good-great games..

the only people who don't like DS games are sony fanboys..and i'm really serious here..the DS has the most casual games..and shovelware..but also great titles like

LoZ:PH, Ninja Gaiden:DS, adnvance Wars: Days of Ruin (it got me into AW...I hated all other AW before it) so yeah..you've got alot on DS

the PSP lacks games really..it's a second choice...you can always put a NES emulator on it... ^_~

Ugh, the only people who don't like PSP games are DS fanboys. See what I did there? Honestly, if you can't see all the quality PSP titles, you either haven't done your homework or you're just blind.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Wrong. I've had a PSP since launch, I play it a lot, and still have yet to get through all the games I want to get through. I own something like 30 games and haven't even touched a bunch of them. If 30 solid games qualify as a "lack of games" then I just guess you're way more hardcore than I am

Durrrr, the PSP is better I never play my DS, DURRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Man, it's all about style nowadays. The DS is a cool piece of equipment, and it's small size is makes it as portable as an ipod classic. The one piece colour models are quite eye-appealing. To me, the PSP looks clunky, nerdy, and a pain in the ass to keep on you.

Good games are ultimately derives from personal taste. The DS has a good mix of genres and a full library, while the PSP library is improving and is coming out with a storm of games.

Meh, I'd choose a DS, just because of the familiar ips. You can't go wrong with either systems; just learn to argue your purchase accordingly :P

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is the best Zelda title ever made.

"The Person Who Got the Closest to Winning the 1st VGC VC Giveaway, but still lost"

1.) Large Library

2.) Nice Price

3.) Stylus is nice

4.) Several games on the way

5.) Touching is good. :3

Pixel Art can be fun.

One thing I wish Sony would do is go to a clam-shell design like the DS or a slider configuration so that the system wasn't so long. IMO, the PSP's thin enough, but just too long to be a portable device you could pocket.

I also just wanted to point out that Nintendo titles are often called "familiar IPs" whereas Sony games are called "PS2 ports." I'm not calling you out, Oxford, b/c you didn't say that. I'm just pointing out the widespread trend.

What's all this about, lol?

Let's not retalliate because the PSP thread turned into a flame war between tense PSP owners during a gaming drought, and holier than though DS owners with Chrono Trigger and DQIX as backup.

Like I said, if you're not gonna crack you PSP and surplant it with roms, then get a DS, no contest.

If you are gonna crack your PSP, then the systems are relatively close, but the DS still has the advantage due to price and battery life.

From a legal perspective, if your looking for a gaming system that there is a 100 percent chance you won't feel bad about buying, it's the DS. Nobody feels bad about buying a DS. It is, indisputably, worth every penny.

The same cannot be said for the PSP.

In reality, nothing on the PSP is gonna come close to the originality from a game like Elite Beat Agents. If you want a solid gaming experience, or if you want a new gaming experience, the DS is the way to go. If you want a portably PS2 with a much worse library, but more functionality, then get a PSP.

One thing is certain, as gaming platforms(Not multimedia platforms, just as in the games it can play when you open it in the store), out of the box, they do not stack up. DS is far superior, considering BC, and the tons of original and innovative titles available and coming soon to the console.

As portable device, the PSP has much more functionality. It does have a few excellent games, but trust me when I tell you, the metacritic list is stacked with stuff that you ain't gonna buy, ever. It's got quite a few great games, and that will be your gaming library. There isn't a lot of choice in what you should buy. I can probably name the PSP library of most PSP fanboys on this site by guessing, for isntance.

It comes down to what you want here.

Do you want a gaming device that will give you new and interesting ways to play tons of new, prestigious, and interesting games now and in the future?

or

Do you want a multimedia/gaming device that plays a decent amount of traditional style console-like games, while at the same time offering MP3 and limited movie playback, which appears to be past its hayday for new software, but also offers PS3 connectivity and SNES roms?

While "getting both" is the PC option, here is the likely scenerio:

You get a DS and are happy with it.

or

You get a PSP, and end up hating handheld gaming because you rarely play it.

Why don't you ask some non-partisan PSP owners around the internet. I hate to speak my mind, but it looks like I just did.

Pretending that it's all opinion, when the DS has a near 100 percent satisfaction rate, and the PSP is in a freakin' gaming drought with its owners whining everyday on the forums and there is speculation of a superior model coming out next year now...well I'm just being honest here, it isn't really a choice Mr. B. The answer is obvious.

The PSP isn't coming out with a storm of games. That's a fib. I defy you or anyone to list them. Saying that the PSP has a storm of great games coming out is reportable to the better business bureau, lol.

Check this post out, anyone, please:

Now say the PSPs lineup is a "storm of games" lol.
