Forums - Gaming - 2008 to 2009 Wii or XBOX360? *vote

As many of yu probably knoe I am a Wii fan, and so far a Wii owner exclusively.  I am also a dedicated Nintendo fanboy (perhaps not as much as others), especially since SEGA left the Hardware market.  Depending on finances I may have some significant money to put towards games.  I have already tucked away for Wii FiT (I am also going to try to claim it as a tax deduction for health issues) and as soon as I can acutally find it I'll buy it.  I am trying to get some savings together for Guitar Hero IV:World Tour Wii.  As the year winds down I see a big decision ahead of me game wise.  Wii or XBOX 360.

Lately I have become pretty impressed with what I've seen from released and upcoming XBOX 360 titles.  Bioshock, Mass Effect, Fable II, and the Project Gotham Series (I loved MSR on Dreamcast) all look like incredible exclusives for me.  Also since I do have an HDTV, an HD system would make sense to have.

Looking at the line-up of games coming out in the next year for the Wii pretty much looks pathetic to me.  I am pumped about Star Wars and the Wiimote lightsaber bit is enough for me to want it for Wii.  The Conduit seems awesome and I want a real shooter for the Wii.  but beyond that Dokepon Kingdom (and of course GH:IV) is the only other thing I see.

What do you all think about the upcoming Line-up for X360 in comparisson.

I'll also note that whereas I love my Wii and Nintendo I am kinda disapointed with the thing now that the initial wowness is over.  Legend of Zelda is sweet (though coulda been enjoyed on GC about as well) and Guitar Hero III is my fav (though Multi-platform).  but everything else has just kind of paled away with the exception of Wii Sports and Pro Evolution Soccer (also MP, but like Star Wars I like the interface better).

So place your votes here for what you think (I will do my own thing anyway but... for fun) should I buy Wii games/save money and/or wait for further titles.  Or hold out for an XBOX360 and buy games for that.

note: My wife (sorta out of nowhere) has been idly talking about wanting an XBOX360 for her birthday in Sept.  and I was considering it for mine in March.  Or a family present for the 3 of us for Christmas (Baby will be born then :^))  The main purchasing decision is pricing, with the recent drops lately and the initial elevated price (compared to Wii) I want to buy when the time is right or get a good bundle or something.

THis fall? Xbox 360> Wii by far. Keep your Wii though, Mario , Zelda and Pikmin are coming next year. I just got a 360 and don't regret it, it is awsome. Like you I have been a big Nintendo fan my entrie life but dislike Nintendo's new direction (though I still like them alot and still love their "core" games)
360 is the spiritual sucessor to the DC imo. I have a saturn, and saturn L/R triggers are the same as the 360' controllers triggers. DC controller was based off the saturn controller, and Xbox based off DC, and still saturn and 360 controllers are very similar.

It really all depends on your tastes...

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Hmm... I do like the 360's coming lineup, but I'm looking at the positives of lack of Wii games (starting High School, saving for college, cross country) I'm just getting less time & money, so it's a nice sigh of relief.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Or throw them at people's houses, whatever makes you happy.

I had a look at your games collection you had some Resident Evil games, A decent quantity of shooters, a few JRPG games and you have a PC so you probably like a few of the PC/360 cross platform games.

It looks like your previous purchases are compatible with the offerings on the Xbox360 and based upon your PC collection its probably pretty old and not suitible to play games. I would say that yes, you would enjoy an Xbox360 - may I suggest a 60gb Jasper premium or Arcade depending on whether you want to go online for $280 or $350.

You should be able to build up a collection of games quite quickly and cheaply and so long as you have fun the purchase of another console is very justified. Wii60FTW?

Animal Crossing City Folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and I saw in a video about Reggie saying core games coming in '09...

Core games are coming for Wii. Just wait...

I'm sorry, pretendo, but isn't that what PS3 fans said?

if you wanted, you could complement the hdtv with a PS3. It has a lot more 1st and 2nd party games to look forward to IMO.

But in response to the OP, I would say as of now, the 360 lineup is better (when compared to the wii), but we still don't know a lot about the Nintendo lineup.

Either way an HD console will rock your socks.

if your wife said she wants you to buy her one...it sounds like the question is already answered
