I'm confused.
"I'm pretty sure when everyone here played their first game it was either something "meh"
SMB was my very 1st game and I found it anything but "meh".
Anyway, I don´t think it´d be a god idea to ask someone who only plays WiiSports/WiiPlay to go diving right into Zelda and Metroid games.
From my own experience it's complete BS. The new "expanded market" people I know buy loads of games because they're older and have more income. Whereas before they might have picked up a DVD on the way home they're now buying a Wii game along with the weekly food shop.
Your typical "hardcore" gamer is either still at school or is unemployed and lives with their parents. Neither situation allows for buying lots of games.
You can't read anything more into my anecdotal data than anyone else's, but the attach rates The Source posted show that people are buying Wii games at a record rate for a Nintendo console. An attach rate of four games in the first year is unprecedented.

I know several married people who play with both their Wiis.

Maybe don't use Zelda and Metroid to make the transition, but more "bridge" games, like Boom Blox, Mario Kart, Guitar Hero 3 and Lego Star Wars. Then you can offer the more hardcore games.
Soriku, only rant when you're ready.
Expect quite a few dissect posts.

Because they only liked Wii sports/Wii play type of games and they found the other games in that genre were worse...

It happens all over the internet. Us used commonly as F.U.D. when you don't want a system or product to be successful and create pointelss arguements about it in an attempt to stop it.
Microsoft used it against Linux in the past
I have noticed that it's only the Sony/MS fanboys who mysteriously know tons of people who bought a Wii and never play it....
