From my own experience it's complete BS. The new "expanded market" people I know buy loads of games because they're older and have more income. Whereas before they might have picked up a DVD on the way home they're now buying a Wii game along with the weekly food shop.
Your typical "hardcore" gamer is either still at school or is unemployed and lives with their parents. Neither situation allows for buying lots of games.
You can't read anything more into my anecdotal data than anyone else's, but the attach rates The Source posted show that people are buying Wii games at a record rate for a Nintendo console. An attach rate of four games in the first year is unprecedented.
