I just signed up and started this forum topic with regarding to purchasing an Xbox 360

The FutureShop deal is two free games with the purchase of the Xbox 360 Pro.  I have my heart set on Gears Of War and GTA4, however, I'm not very familiar with the 360 game library and would like to know if there are other titles I should take a look at before deciding.

what sort of genres of games do you like ?

I love Dead Rising, so look into it to see if it's for you.

But as Mr.Bubbles said, it's easier to make recommendations when we know what you own and what you like.

Do you have a gaming PC?

Heres some 90%+ games you should definately consider.

Mass Effect - Crossover RPG/FPS gaming fun.
Bioshock - Awesome gameplay FPS.
Halo 3 - Awesome Local 4 player multiplayer/Online, easy to drag your friends into playing because its easy to play.
CODIV - Same as above, for online I would go CODIV, for Offline I would go Halo 3.

Some 80+ Games you should buy if you like their genres.

Ninja Gaiden 2 - The best hack n slash out there right now for this gen. Hard but very cool. Has Coop afaik...
Condemned 1/2 - Bargain bin, cool games not sure about multiplayer. The combination fighting/FPS is pretty cool.
Lost Odyssey - Considered the Best JRPG out for the Xbox360.
Crackdown - cool arcadey GTAIV type affair, pretty fun but not played much.

Otherwise check that Games to buy for Xbox360 owners sticky in these forums for some awesome but cheap games to buy/play.

Well I got one recently with the following games:

Ace Combat 6, Assassins Creed, Gears of War, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, all of which I am very impressed with, although I am a little dissapointed with LO, it is really slow, I have taken a break from it for now

I would say Gears of War and GTA 4 are two games worth getting. You should also get Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo 3, and Ninja Gaiden 2.

I open to playing anything or at least giving it a try. My preferences are Platforming, Arcade Racers, Action/Adventure, Sports (Hockey) and FPS.

I'm not really into war based FPS (Hated COD3, however, liked MOHH2 for Wii). I'm not really into RPGs or simulation games (e.g. racing).

Bodhesatva: Do you have a gaming PC?

Unfortunately, I do not like PC gaming. Although some PC games are very impressive, I grew up with consoles and have developed a strong liking for them.

Arcade Racers:
Grid, PGR 3 & 4.

Action/Adventure:
Crackdown. Saints Row. Dead Rising. Kameo.

Sports:
Very few exclusives still exist..So find your favorite EA or otherwise sports game, and get it.

FPS:
Condemned 1/2. Gears (its a TPS). Earth Defense Force 2017 (must-have, and cheap). GRAW, RSV.

Ninja Gaiden 2 looks interesting... is 1 available for 360?  Also, how is Lost Planet?  It's not in the list you provided but I've heard good things about it.
