P.S.  This forum is one of the best I've ever seen in terms of rational debate instead of flaming and follow-the-leader and minority viewpoint oppression.  So I doubt that "a lot different" is "a lot better".  Although I have to concede it's possible ... so please let me find out.  Link please.

Not true.  I would, as would most gamers, but many would simply go with their favorite and not bother with the others.  Rock_on_2008, for instance, seems to almost literally worship Sony, and if they put out an advertisement in the free console universe saying "please don't get the others" I bet he would obey it.

I'm a big Sony fan as well, heh. If they were all free I'd get a PS3 and an X360, I just can't get to like the Wii.

The sales numbers actually answer your question. The console with the best value sells the most. What gives the most value to a system? The library of games it has.

That's why the PS2 easily dominated last generation, despite the competition being always cheaper (GC) or the same price for most of the time (Xbox). If a system doesn't offer enough value for its price compared to its competition, it doesn't sell well. The GC had some awesome games and was always cheaper than the PS2, but the PS2 had a higher value to most gamers because it had a much bigger selection of good games, so people were willing to pay a little more to get access to all these games.

This generation the Wii has the highest value in the eyes of consumers. The new controller combined with a varied selection of games makes the console more valuable than the competitors' systems. If gamers would see more value in the extra features and the games of the HD consoles, they would buy them in greater numbers than the Wii, just like they chose the PS2 over the GC last generation.

Therefore, the current ranking of the three systems in terms of value for your money:

1. Wii
2. PS3
3. 360

i still think the 360  has the highest value since it has the best and most balanced game library. The wii is closing in however, but it needs more 3rd party support.

ps3 far behind. it lacks too many good games and is  still far too expensive. Blue-ray still not as a big deal yet.

Well, I would buy a PS3. It is cheaper than 360 when you take in account Live, and almost all the big exclusives come also out on PC.

3. How did Sony screw up so badly with the PS3 that Sony fanboys have no choice but to dream up a $250 console with the features of a $600 console to go up against the Wii.

Which one of those is going to get better miles per gallon?
