Forums - Nintendo - So... whats the big game for this year/holiday season on wii then? :/

I'd guess Clone Wars.

It's not like the big game of the holidays is always from the console developer.

Around the Network

As I posted in someone elses thread about the same thing; I think Nintendo's E3 presentation and first party software offerings for this Holiday season are insultingly bad.

Animal Crossing, Mario Baseball, Wario, and Wii Music are their holiday line up? That's what they are providing for their fans this year? For a company as large as Nintnedo that's just pathetic.

Their refusal to invest in expanding software development over the years has become increasingly evident for anyone who wants to look. When you compare what they are delivering software wise, verses last gen, it's just like the Cube all over again.

And the third party offerings for Wii are just awful when compared to the competition. I challenge anyone here to look at a full list of upcomming third party games for Wii and compare it to 360's or PS3's. It's just sad.

Predictions- 1. Wii music will not sell as well as Wii fit due to existing/superior competition in the music game genre (nintendo games sell the best with no competition). 2. Wii Sports 2 will be delayed untill next summer 3. my sister will begin rambling to me about collecting bugs and the new furniture in her house or something and Animal Crossing will sell better than the last one by at least 2 million. 4. Nintendo will show the next zelda a year from now and everyone will forget about having to wait around for said year 5. In the mean time I'll be playing Gears 2, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Silent hill, Bioshock, Far Cry, Prince of Persia, Bionic Commando, SF4, Killzone, Socom, Resistance 2, Siren, Wipeout, Motorstorm 2, and Little Big Planet this fall/winter. 6. my Wii will continue to collect dust or be loaned to my sister after I beat Fatal Frame 4 and Wario.

I'll add two predictions to your post.

7) You will continue to make posts with absurd claims like "(w)hen you compare what they are delivering software wise, verses last gen, it's just like the Cube all over again."

8) The rest of us will continue to laugh at you.

But welcome to the forums!

Finish those games as quickly as you can!! Then you will never have to worry again in using a vacuum cleaner, as your Wii will be acting as one, collecting all the dust. Wii is great, even when you're not using it, it's still useful.

And he also said it's for the core gamers. :\

7. Explain to me how the software Nintendo has delivered on Wii is so different than what they delivered on Cube.  Both in quality on quantity it's almost exactly the same.  All they've done is add in a few tech demo/edutainment productes (Wii sports, Wiifit, and now Wiimusic) to fill in the gaps a bit.  They continue to produce the same thing year after year and yet everyone acts like it's new now just because it's popular.  Let me tell you someting, just because everyone is buying it up doesn't make it different or new, just better marketed and cheaper than the competition.

8. laugh all you want playing Wiimusic and Animal Crossing this fall (the equivalent of Sony only announcing Singstar and Buzz as their holiday lineup, lol).  I have spent years as a Nintendo fan, have owned all of their systems, and I love their AAA stuff.  But Nintendo's line up this years just plain sucks.  I don't care how you spin it.  Have fun waiting around for software.  I'm done doing that.

That is a big game for a "core" gamer. That's the difference though between the core gamer, and the much more limited in scope "hardcore" gamer.

Core gamers are the people who have been playing forever and who's library includes games from almost every genre.

You beat me there... I knew you will post about DS games. But still lets wait if SSBB will sell, about Wii Fit lets see if Wii Fit will sell alone with only the peripheral with just Wii Fit alone, without other games supporting it.

We'll see. I'll hold on to this thread.

Edit: I forgot to put the smiley.

Wanna bet on that? LOL... :P

What's the bet. WiiFit will sell 100k+ week world wide for the rest year? I really don't think you should bet against that.

(1) Im betting the 100+ week just for Wii Fit alone and not because of the games coming from the peripheral like Rabbids TV party and Shaun White snowboarding till May. If the balance board sell because of Wii Fit alone you win. (2) The SSBB was simple, if SSBB  sell for 100+ a week till May you win...

So let me get this straight.  There are two separate bets.

1. If no other balance board games come out then you think it will sell less than 100k a week and I don't.  The problem is a game is already out. We Family Ski.

Also Jillians Fitness Nonsense and EA's Fitness Nonsense. Along with G1 Jockey which is big in japan will have balance board support, this will be out this year (Horse Racing + Wii Fit Balance Board = easy sales in japan).  And then you are gonna say I won it unfairly because you didn't know that.

2. I won't take that bet about Smash because it is not a sure thing.  Through January 1st, I will though.

What do you want to wager?

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

This is a big chance for 3rd Party to step up with something epic.
Besides Animal Crossing, this years line-up is meh.
This is a good chance for something like The Conduit to shine.

I own all of lastgen systems as of October 2008. (Finally got a Dreamcast)

I own every currentgen system except PS3.

Quality being debatable, I won't deign to touch it (although if you honestly believe Metroid Prime 1+2 play like Corruption does, or that Sunshine and Galaxy are the same game, well.....).

Quantity, though, is an area you could not be more wrong about. It's been just over eighteen months since the Wii launched. Since then Nintendo has published roughly thirty games for they system. If you do the math, you'll realize that's about two per month. Does that sound like the Gamecube's release schedule  to you (hint: there's only one right answer, and it is not "yes.")? Even better for Nintendo fans, many of its biggest titles are amongst those thirty (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Kart, Smash Bros., etc.). At this point, I sincerely doubt that you actually owned a Gamecube, at least during those first two years, because I can assure you the hits did not keep coming out that quickly (or have you failed to notice that Nintendo detractors are now falsely chanting that Nintendo's already run out of franchises?).

On a slightly unrelated note, calling Wii Sports and Wii Fit just "tech demos" leaves me incredulous. "It's not targeted towards me, so I'll belittle it" is a very common attitude this generation, but it doesn't make it right. Although I'll freely grant you that high sales do not mean a game is different or new. Grand Theft Auto IV is all the proof you need of that.

As for your final coment, I won't be purchasing either of those titles. Instead, I'll be spending my money on a bunch of other quality Wii games. But I appreciate your encouragment, and hope the further delays on your games aren't too numerous this year. Oh, and I suppose since you're done with Nintendo, we won't be seeing you on the Nintendo forums anymore.

Pity.
