The reason why this is important is because mainstreams listens to these guys vs forums posters. Patcher like it or not affects business decisions and Croal is considered a respectable journalist so hearing this stuff from them does make a difference. I am really shocked they picked SONY over Nintendo as worse. Thought it was pretty damn universal Nintendo sucked by far the worse. Like everyone says is just their opinion though theirs just gets a little more weight since they have a bigger audience.

I think what their grades focus more on is how much they let out of their sleeves, than what they showed.

Focusing on already existing titles that will be good sounds far better than focusing on new titles that will be bad (save for Animal Crossing which will most certainly kick ass).

@Kenny: Yes, but in 2007 people haven't yet "got" the idea, since the new approach was just showed to them in 2007. Now they seem to know what to expect as "gamers", when the whole happening is for them as "journalists".

@Theprof00: I think you're right, they expected new revealings (which these happenings have usually been for) and rated them according to that.

If they put Nintendo second it's because they are not blinded by the fanboy madness and didn't say Wii Music was retarded like Nintendo fans did. They said that Nintendo are not targeting the hardcore with E3 and what they done for casuals was excellent. It's in that light that Nintendo has a better conference than Sony. Sony was unimpressive because God of War isn't that a big series and MAG they said was a surprise but poorly presented.

I don't mind N'Gai usually but Pach was going crazy here and actually impressing me.  Until he got back on that Wii 2 talk.  Even 2010 is wayyyyyy too early for Wii 2.  Only N'Gai was talking sense there.  They're shifting 700k in non-holiday months, no rush to try to upgrade their console to HD when their customers clearly don't care for it.

That said I agreed with Pachter completely during his assesment of the Nintendo conference (apart from the grade).  The core gamer got AC, and a bone saying that the Mario and Zelda teams were working (which was as "revealing" as the GoW3 CG teaser, just not as flashy). Plus apparently Miyamoto even told N'Gai that Nintendo is looking towards TGS for core gamers so I guess they're going back.

Still, both were a little hard on Sony.  They didn't bomb like that.  I agree they probably should have focused far more on PS3 than PS2/PSP/movie store but it wasn't that bad.

N'Gai being a self professed Sony fanboy did give Sony the lowest score but sounded much more disappointed (even pissed at one time) at Nintendo.

Pachter was much more defensive for Nintendo. They are focusing on their bread and butter now and although this may have pissed off the Mario Zelda hardcore, I think if you bought the Wii, you have to accept that this is their business model going forward. Interesting thing he said about Blu-ray adoption and I wonder whether he also thinks PS3 will sell more hardware but much less software.

Im very glad that they gave high scores to Microsoft as it was clear at least to me (yes my opinion) that their conference was the best. Interesting stat about Netflix that I didnt know about either and I hope they do something similar in EU.
