Forums - Sony - Sir Howard Stringer's biggest Sony gamble, Kaz Hirai.

With the way third party software is selling on the PS3 one can only wonder if anyone would be able to turn it around. He definately has an uphill battle just to keep some third parties from dropping support for the PS3 entirely and to try to keep ahold of as many exclusives that he can, even to keep the level of software the PS3 is getting now will likely be a major battle.

yeah because games like MGS4, GT5, FFXIII wont sell systems or software

GT3 sold very close to 14.5M copies world wide, FFXII sold close to 2M first week in japan alone. these games will sell systems and thus gain more thrd party support for the ps3

kaz hirai has always been better than kutiragi... he's been more upfront with the media just like phill harrison... those are the 2 two people out of sony i repsect the most...

The problem is that those games (GT5 and FFXIII) are at least a year away and I doubt MGS4 will come out this year.  I'm sure some PS3 fans are saying "So what?".  Well the PS3 needs those kinds of games now in order for the gap between it and the Wii and 360 not to widen.  If the gap does widen the PS3 runs the risk of being labelled an "also-ran" and becoming the runt of the console litter and getting very few scraps of third party exlcusives or even support because of it.  Even if PS3 fans don't see it now the current sales of the PS3 and it's software are likely having a major affect on third parties.  It's highly unlikely without a moneyhat from Sony that any third parties who're in the planning stages for a new game that'll come out in 1-3 years would make it a PS3 exclusive.  Thus begins the possibility of a vicious cycle of third parties waiting for the PS3 to dramatically increase sales before giving their full support and customers waiting for third parties to give their full support before buying a PS3.
