Give me a second I will make a table you can copy (assuming those NPD numbers are correct)

This is what the first three posts were talking about.  The dates don't line up.

PS3 has sold almost 2m this year already, great stuff

@Jandre.
Copy the table I posted just above into your OP.

edit. this is the correct set of VGC numbers to correspond with NPD Jan-Jun

Console Wii PS3 X360 PSP DS
America
3,911,078
1,711,802
1,638,405
1,680,688
3,628,702
NPD (USA) 3,482,000 1,608,000 1,354,000 1,482,000 3,187,000

The thing you have to understand is that it is generally ok to take off 10% (from Americas) when you are talking about the whole market... but individual consoles can sometimes differ slightly because they are more or less popular in other countries (PSP used to do terribly in Canada, PS3 used to as well but I think it picked up, 360 used to be comparitively more popular, I am not sure about now because we haven't had a recent NPD for Canada)

So if you add up all the consoles together. and then multiply NPD by 1.1 it comes out very close to VGC (I think VGC is about 200k higher) but like I said, the PSP doesn't do so well in Canada, but DS and Wii now do better, so using the same rule on them is slightly flawed.

I'll see your table and raise you a % comparison.

Console Wii PS3 X360 PSP DS
VGC Americas 3,911,078 1,711,802 1,638,405 1,680,688 3,628,702
NPD (US Only) 3,482,000 1,608,000 1,354,000 1,482,000 3,187,000
Percent Difference 12.3% 6.5% 21.0% 13.4% 13.9%

Average difference between NPD and VGC across all platforms is 13.4%. If you adjust NPD numbers up by 10% to estimate the rest of the Americas market, then Xbox 360 is the only hardware which is more than 10% off NPD's estimate. I've seem to recall ioi stating that he thinks NPD undertracks the 360, so I guess this is expected.

The shipped figures from the fiscals should be soon I think. MS has already given some numbers I believe.. but the proper fiscal isn't out yet. Sony is usually later than the other two (or at least has been the past 3 quarters)

Neither Sony nor MS will give any regional breakdowns though, so all we see is the Worldwide total.

As of the end of last quarter (March 31st)

Wii - 24.45 million (I'll find you the regional numbers if you want)
PS3 - 12.85 million
X360 - 19 million

MS has stated they have now shipped 20.3 million though. (as of the end of June)

I am not sure Microsoft wll ever release 'real' numbers, when they can just list manufactured or shipped or thinking about very hard and look better. Sony has been claiming that they have been catching up because they are only being outsold 3 to 1 rather than 6 to 1, so they are math disabled.   Nintendo posts it numbers each quarter as units shipped.

My impression from the reports of what is in stock where is that Microsoft and Sony are building inventory while Nintendo is still not meeting demand for the Wii, and is pretty much selling everything it is making.

The urge to play is a terrible thing to waste.

@EllensProphet -- He is talking about shipped numbers and all three have to release them...

Ohh and PS3 has been outselling 360 worldwide for a while now. They have also passed 360 in Europe according to VGchartz and SONY ...

I'm pretty sure you need to lower VGC by 10%, not raise NPD by 10%.

Lowering VGC 10%:

Console Wii PS3 X360 PSP DS
VGC Americas 3,519,970 1,540,622 1,474,565 1,512,619 3,265,832
NPD (US Only) 3,482,000 1,608,000 1,354,000 1,482,000 3,187,000
Percent Difference 1.09% -4.19% 8.90% 2.07% 2.47%

Off by 2.07% on average.

^^ 360 is most overtracked, and ps3 only one undertracked.
yes I did have to point that out, your welcome.

Sure by VGC's numbers, but by the same token NPD overtracks PS3 and undertracks 360. No matter who was high and who was low on either console there is always room to complain because one of them always shows one undertracked compared to the other.

PS - yes I did have to point that out, you're welcome.
