Forums - Gaming - What you should know about exclusives

my whole point of this entire post was this.
I am tired of people that are upset about the FF13 thing.
People are talking about selling their ps3's and whatnot, and it's an insult to gaming everywhere. That this whole thing revolves around one game that hasn't even been "lost" nor actually "announced for 360". It is an insult to other developers and to Sony. This is like calling every other game shit, and it only boils down to immaturity.
And to get one thing clear MS obviously paid for the game.
Why would S-E be like "Hey MS we were thinking about releasing our game on your system"
MS-"Great what a steal"
SE- "Absolutely but you are only getting a port and none of the other games, and you will only be able to sell the game in america."
MS- "WTf? Ummmm ok,," (backs away slowly)
My OP=
SE and Sony = Tighter than a fist in a vice
Multiplat= Not as big a deal for Japanese companies
MS= tendancy to pay for everything
If you want I can post the interview where the SE guy says conventional market strategy used in the west are not the only answer to everything. In response to multiplat trend in america and europe.

I didn't read it all. So am just gonna say this: BAD OP! BAD!

Going along with the first part of your post, which is the idea I am addressing.
There is a reason why FF13 is exclusive in Japan, not because of the install base, because if you put the game on an N-Gage, N-Gage would put every other phone out of business in Japan.
The reason is their economy.
Japanese economy is very much tied into American economy, but recently Japan has been pulling away and liberating itself from american market trend by mercantilist principles. Keep japanese money in japan. Keep japanese companies going. The market has been improving according to these principles, and I've been studying them for past 3 years.
This move is
a) saving console sales in america that are selling at loss and even greater loss because of strong yen and weak dollar.
b) still selling the same number of games
c) staying afloat.
this was a strategy that was almost certainly discussed with and co-imagined by Sony, who claims to be blindsided by the "announcement". (BS)
d) making sure that 360's continue to not sell in Japan.
(Some may ask why, and the reason is this)
Since FF7 (which many discredit as being a greta game) SE and Sony were tied together. In many instances the amount that a company can make increases as it distribution lanes decrease.
Ask yourselves this, why do cell phone makers only release certain phones for some companies, instead of all? Because they have a better chance at being sold, and also developing a fan base, along a smaller lane of distribution.

This japanese 'honour' in business thing is actually quite patronising to the japanese in my view and just not true any more.

And in any case "honour" was often used in place of other eqaully appropriate words such as "protectionist" and "xenophobic".

No I think the honour I'm talking about means more along the lines of "He helped me so I help him" kinda thing. You know, duty, obligation, decency. Where someone can say that company is a loyal company, that makes me like them kinda thing.

I don't know why you guys are being so PC about this whole thing. You all sound like a bunch of Oprahs. Except you are directly misquoting and taking things out of context.

I don't know how you can say this is patronizing to the Japanese. I'm in business and all the time me and others do equal favors for each other. If I were to make one of them a millionaire, they would feel obligated. it's only in the western view that this "honour (read: like honoring a coupon, as in I Promised you this so here it is)" means nothing and I am not owed squat.

I find it patronizing that americans/ westerners feel that this kind of business is better for the world, as globalization most certainly is a western philosophy.

i guess it could be considered a port... in the same sense that the ps3 version is a port.

Square defected because a microsoft employee came to their factory with a huge pile of money and said 'give us a port of FF13 and you can have 750 trillion dollars and the latest Windows for all of your PCs!!!'

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Nope, like the PS3, the 360 version will be a port from the PC, if not, why all the trouble making the Cristal tools???

Look when I say port, I mean that FF13 is being developed with the ps3 capabilities and specs in mind. After that the 360 version is getting the version that the ps3 is getting so long as the framerates hold out.

I'm sorry you don't understand what "port" means. But theres the definition, pretty much.

EDIT: It's also funny that crystal tools was developed for cgi manipulation, as it can process scenes to movie calibur.

Credibility: It's gone once you say something that can be proven wrong.

Why? historian makes my understanding sound like a dug up artifact. Sociologist is more like it. :)
