Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo choose not to show core games at E3

Miyamoto:

I think that there's probably one other element to it, and that's that our view of how we use E3 has changed. For a very long time, E3 was an event where - and certainly Nintendo included - catered specifically to the core gamer. Now we look at more ... an opportunity for us to introduce new concepts and new types of play that we intend to bring to the broader audience, particularly because of the media that gathers at E3 now.

So while attending an E3 event like this, they might be given the impression that Nintendo is no longer focusing on the games that appeal to the core gamer, in fact we're still working on many of those titles, but it's just not the type of event where we'll be showcasing that anymore.

I'm considering buying a Wii and although there are more games than I have time for, I was hoping for something to look forward to for the holiday seaons.

Tales of Symphonia 2 is a good game to look forward this holiday. Also you have plenty of older games to catch up on, so I don't see there being a problem. Oh and just because nintndo doesn't announce core games at E3 that doesn't mean they won't ever annouce them.

I just hope they announce big games in the next event.

And he's right.  The daily papers in my area had articles on Nintendo's (and 360's) focus on non-male 14-34 people to attract them to play games stating how 'core' gamers have declined from 90% of userbase to 60-70% already.   Another on PS3 introducing movies.   Not a pip on any 'core' games though.

The daily paper here had a list of the five most interesting things on E3:

MotionPlus
Rock Band released in Sweden
WiiMusic
Left4Dead
Lips

I think it was in that order.

I prefer Nintendo's strategy about keeping a tight lip on games until they are almost done.  Although that doesn't stop me from hoping they would announce Zelda Wii.

I agree there are enough current games to keep me happy and since I had a PS2 I can catch up on a few GC games that I missed.  I've never played any of the Tales series, but recently I find that RPGs don't intrest me that much.  I'm finding it a chore to play through FFXII & Rogue Galaxy (why do they make you go into the menu system to use items in an action RPG).

I haven't bought a Wii yet, so i have a lot of stuff to catch on when i buy it.
(I only have a DS)

^^^ This is what you get for blowing a rumor out of proportion

Chocobo brain damage!!! Here, drink this diet Coke..*runs*

Currently playing :

VC - Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen
Wii - New Super Mario Bros. Wii
DS - Glory of Heracels

E3 lends itself more to casual play anyway. How much can you learn in a 5 minute demo of a game like Fable 2 or Infinite Undiscovery? But 5 minutes is enough to get a good feel for Wii Music, Wii Sports Resort, and even sports games like Madden.

so, they will on other events like TGS... and hopefully, Space world!!!

Car accidents and disabled babies are interesting

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
