That's the point. Sony downgraded PSP because they can. DS was no where close. Better battery would cost more. | Oh, come on, that's fanboy talk. All people want their console to reach their limit, you can't tell otherwise. Batteries were already at the psp release advanced enough to rectify a 20% increace on CPU speed. And with minimal costs, it would not change price at all. See nintendo and it's good battery choices, you could say that it's less powerful but the thing still runs Wi-fi and 2 Screens (one being touch-sensitive). Battery costs are minimal. |
Getting back to this since a certain someone derailed this topic....
Sony does sell a higher capacity battery for the PSP at this point, however you have to buy it as an accessory.
Now, beyond this the higher clock does quite a it. For most of the homebrew video players, 333mhz is needed to get smooth playback at 270x480 resolution, that is the native resolution of the PSPs display - Sony limits video off memory stick to, I beleive, 240x320 resolution.
So this is quite a nice little mod. Of course, the higher clock also improves the emulators, some of them dramatically. SNES plays at full speed on 333, and I think the GBA is about the same. The N64 emulator may also run well, but I've been out of the "scene" for a while so my facts might not be straight. I also beleive the higher clock helps the hacked Sony PS1 emulator, which thanks to homebrew coders can play any PS1 title.
Give me a break, Kber. Do you honestly think playing Mega Drive, SNES, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Playstatio, Neo Geo, ect games isn't cool? Running games off the memory stick to significantly save battery and cut loading times isn't cool? Having a decent MP3 player isn't cool? The customization features only available via hacked firmware isn't cool? The dozens of utilites aren't cool?
I'm sorry, but homerew offers some of the best things aout the PSP.
