Read my article and please give me your feedback. I found this article on another gaming forum site and thought hey this is excellent material. Light hearted and well it is very on the ball in regards to how the gaming market has evolved. The PS3 truly stood out at E3 as providing the full gaming experience.

So you just stole someone else's 'opinion' and tried to pass it off as your own to? Don't you realise your fanboy crap hurts this site? Is this your last thread before you leave?

WRONG. Fanboys are the ones behind the success of sites like this. Why d'you think gametrailers keeps posting videos comparing 360 and ps3 graphics? Answer: To attract more fanboys to their site, thus, increasing its popularity. The fact that you respond to Rock_on's threads only add validity to my arguement.

i think it is in 3rd place cause of high price and no promise of games, especially at the beginning.

There were promises of games. They were just delayed.

Date is an issue, but when you look at how the PS2 faired in each of the three regions:

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS2&reg1=Japan&cons2=PS3&reg2=Japan&cons3=PS3&reg3=Japan&weeks=156

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS2&reg1=America&cons2=PS3&reg2=America&cons3=PS3&reg3=America&weeks=156

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS2&reg1=Total+Other&cons2=PS3&reg2=Total+Other&cons3=PS3&reg3=Total+Other&weeks=156

The PS2 had sold (roughly) 25 Million consoles by now, and would certainly have sold more than the XBox 360.

I'll just compare it to the Xbox 360 (because the Wii is not a competitor anyway, right?).

I don't know for you, but the PlayStation 3 has it's share of online games as well, and we can notice an evolution in online gaming on this console with the latest 2.41 update. They're just a bit late in bringing ''that'' appeal to the consumers right now. Where is the online chat everyone is waiting for?

What sells the most on the Xbox 360? First-person shooters. What type of games does the Xbox 360 offer the most? First-person shooters, with games like Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Battlefield: Bad Company, and the list could go on (you can also add Gears of War, another Xbox 360 exclusive). The PS3's got some of them, but with no live chat, it removes one more thing the consumer could have to create a great experience (or different I may say). Small things like that can make all the difference. If you don't deliver what the competitor can deliver (game and online-wise), then why bother?

By the way, I think gaming hasn't been as much powerful as it is right now. What's wrong with this new world of communications and distribution anyway? Power to the consumer I say. We got more stuff in our boxes and we can still play our ''hardcore'' games as well, so why not?

Do you mean to say that PS3 games have no voice support at all or that you cannot voice communicate with your friends while they are playing a different game then you?

If it is the latter (cross game chatting) you are right. If it is the latter, you are wrong as most online games and virtually all high-profile games have in-game chatting with people on your team. Heck, even Socom on the PS2 had voice-chat.

Former or latter, the problem is that it's not made a mandatory feature in every single games like on the 360, where regardless of game and or sitting at the dashboard, you are able to chat with someone. As far as I know, they are leaving it to the developers to support it... Which is a bad move if you ask me.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

IMVHO Sony paid a lot PS3's partial and supply constrained launch. Early adopters bought it all around the world despite its high price, selling to european ones too since its first Christmas would have accelerated take-off more than linearly, as Christmas sales are higher everywhere and the higher initial boost would have anticipated the first price cuts too, after which sales increased. All this would have increased title releases and perhaps saved some exclusive too, adding benefit.

ps3 focused on game? lmfao. it's number one selling point is the ability to watch blu ray movies.

The key point about why they are third though, it was (and maybe still is) too expensive for general populace, 360 was released a year early and Wii is a fad. (my opinion based on general populace)

Just a question; what would Wii have to do to not be a fad in your eyes, if (almost) completely selling out in its second summer after release isn't enough?

Sales are not what defines a fad, something could sell loads and not be a fad. The speed of which it has sold those units, maybe.

To not be a fad it would have to do more then sell consoles, it would have to make those people who bought it seriously play games, not just party games but all kinds and on more occasions then just when your friends are round (or in the case of my housemate 'the winter'). Once those people seriously consider buying a Zelda or Metroid game, then things might have changed.

So, 2 years (or 1/5th of the generation according to sony) isn't a long enough time to be completely sold out? If it had sold this many units over 3 years, would that make it less of a fad? More software sales by this point in its life than any console in history doesn't show that the people buying a Wii are seriously playing games?

10 year plan is for the life of the PS3, not how long sony expect the generation to go on for. It's not about being sold out, the almighty PS2 had sold 14million units by this time in Wii's life, 29 million is a fair wack more. Remove WiiSports and WiiPlay then tell me about the software again.

Again, software sales mean squat about people using the dang things. Like I said, i have a housemate, he has a Wii, he has Mario Galaxy, SSX and the common Wii Sports. He hasn't touched his Wii in about 3 months, except about once a month ago when a mate of his came round.

I'm not saying, however, that it's not success. It more then a success that i think Nintendo could dream and good to them.

Fad: a temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct, etc., esp. one followed enthusiastically by a group.

Trend: the general course or prevailing tendency; drift: trends in the teaching of foreign languages; the trend of events.

A fad is all about time and not about "buying a lot of games". Since, the Wii has been sold out for all its 1 year and 3 quarter existence, I would call it a trend, not a fad.
