Well, the console is supply constrained in the US (and most parts of the world as well), so of course it hasn't reached its full potential yet. It won't until supply is higher than demand.

I think these are the only official numbers which were released on March 31.
NPD, VGC, M-Create, Chart-track are only estimates based on polling, which is probably why they don't report it.
Other news organisations might quote NPD, VGcharts or even NGW with a disclaimer, but Bloomberg is a financial news organisation and so will use the Q1 official financial numbers.

Maybe they feel they should have sold even more Wiis than they have
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
I assume Nintendo has a department where they keep themselves updated about the latest sales. You can't tell me they're not looking at a list of sales every now and then to see how well the DS / WII is doing. You don't need charts like VGcharts, NPD for that to be informed when being such a major company. I find it weird that Nintendo would use fiscal numbers only then instead of recent sales numbers. Like by the end of the year you're still telling that the WII sold less then 6 million worldwide while the counter might be twice as much. Okay I'm overreacting but just to give an example ;) And why is Sony Playstation telling just right the opposite?

Have you ever worked at a major corporation? Sales numbers are highly confidential information that are only released at the end of a quarter to the public, even most of the employees inside the corporation don't know that information. I know I certainly don't know the sales of the product I work on until the news release goes out at the end of the quarter. There's huge risks of insider trading with that kind of information....
No obvious I don't but thanks for informing me on a way that make me feel like a stupid ![]()

Those numbers are just the last official numbers from nintendo's financial report (check out the hardware shipped page - the breakdown is the same, since that is where ioi gets those numbers..).
Even if you don't trust Vgcharts, Wii is at 3.1 million in the USA & Canada by NPD as of June 2, 2007, 2.7 million in Japan by M-create as of June 17, and at least 1.47 million everywhere else by Nintendo's estimate for March 31..
That alone gives you 7.27 million, and it doesn't account for almost three months of European sales, and two weeks of American sales to be current through June 17 worldwide.
7.27 million already brings you within 15% of the Vgcharts number though if you only trust official data...
