Forums - Gaming - 2008 End of E3?

Ive been reading that companies such as Activision ect. are pulling out of E3 could other companies soon do the same? i dont want that to happen, but E3 hasn't been the same since 2006.

This year sucked, a lot. I think it's time to bury this thing.

Eh, this E3 wasn't as bad as people were expecting in the months leading up to it.  Except for maybe Nintendo's conference.

Companies don't want their biggest announcements buried by a million other announcements. That's the problem with E3. Anything you announce gets lost in all the noise unless the news is massive.

In the old days, you needed these events because the internet didn't exist. But today, PR people can build just as much buzz without all the expense and hassle of these shows. And you're not forced into rushing things out the door just to make the show.

this year was bad hopefully it will be way better next year. well i think Zelda wii will be announed next year!

I read on another site that Ubisoft's president, Alain Corre, said that E3's timing is inappropriate. He thinks E3's important to have because the US market is so large but that July is too late for announcing products for Christmas. He thinks it should be moved back to May and be a little larger (i.e., invite more trade people) but not be as big as 2006. I agree.

As for it sucking, I think it's better than last year's. Last year's was horrible because it was spread out, so the coverage was weak and the level of excitement was dampened.

Lastly, I read somewhere (this site or maybe a different one) where Activision says that the ESA wanted to charge them lot more money because of their increased size due to the merger and they weren't sure if it made sense at this time to spend that amount of money. I'm thinking that Activision is playing hardball to get a lower fee for being a member and that they might return if the conditions (fees) were right.

E3 is simply now a way to showcase games coming out the coming Fall/Winter, while showing a bit of what is coming in the Spring.

E3 was pretty good, there are lots of video's and interviews all over the net for the games i want.

Well atleast theres still the Tokyo Game Show
