Acquisition of Danger, Inc cost MS 500 Million$ so that could explain loss of the department.

Retail Office and Operating Systems are part of EDD? That can't be right.

Actually MS fiscal quarters are pretty common.  I have lots of clients (large companies) that have same fiscal quarters.

 My understanding is that cost is not reflected in the quarter result.

The only cost related to the acquisition is a 24 Million $ charge for development related expenses due to Danger.

Holy crap, MS is down 6% in after hours. To give you an idea of how much loss in value that is, it's about a third of the total market value of Sony. Google doing even worse.
