Will FF XIII be a traditional turn based JRPG?

Nope, it'll be real time.  You know this (right?).

No I did not see any of the gameplay. I have only seen a  few videos of the game.

I stopped reading when you said that Square doesn't make new games. Kingdom Hearts, the only game that's ever debated about here MORE than FFXIII? The World Ends With You? Tons of DS games? Sheesh!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

So which Final Fantasy games are turn based? From FF VII onwards for those who never been interested in playing one of those games before or new people to the series may need to know.

Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant and Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Sound like new Square Enix games to me.

I don't care past the glee I take from watching fanboys wither up and cry over a lost exclusive they'll still get to play on their console.

Overall, I haven't really enjoyed a FF game since IX.

Not counting spinoffs or remakes, FFX was the last turn based Final Fantasy and onot suprisingly, after X the series went downhill.

I am upset to hear this game is going to have elements from XII in it, in my opinion FFXII and it's system were a disaster.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Ok, so I'm new here.  Or rather, I've been visiting for a while and the constant whining about E3 finally made me sign up and post.

It's safe to say that my favorite genre of video games is RPGs.  Theres not quite the gap that there used to be, but it's still my favorite.  That being said..I've lost all faith in Square Enix - as of a few years ago - and still don't understand the hype behind FF13.  The only thing I can give SE credit for is coming up with new concepts and ways to play the games.  Which is great..unless you completely change the formula that made the games popular.  To me, the past few Final Fantasy games are doing nothing but dragging the name in the mud..they aren't Final Fantasy.  Call me old fashion, but no FF game has come close to as good as FFVII..and it was turn-based.  Not only that, they had a good system for it where although it was turn-based, gameplay didn't stop..monsters would still attack when they could even if you didn't.  Granted, I wasn't impressed with FFX-2 and the whole class changing idea, but I thought it was really creative.  I'm still trying really really hard to figure out why so many people liked FFXII.

My question is..they're on number 13..why not slow down the franchise and use all these new ideas on new games?  That way they could continually put out FFVII quality Final Fantasy games and stop remodeling the face of the franchise. Do they think people play Final Fantasy because of its name?  I for one didn't..I played because I was a huge Square fan back in the day of Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Crono Trigger - hell you could even say Illusion of Gaia even though it was Enix before they merged.

I could care less whether FFXIII is exclusive or not, or to what extent.  I won't even waste my time downloading a demo if they give one, because as far as I'm concerned they don't appreciate what made them who they are anymore.  And that's a big hit for me being that RPG's are my favorite genre.  Hell, A few years ago I even applied for a job with them..now they can diaf for all I care. (totally not a threat, just a gesture of strong disinterest)

Before you think I'm just some PS3 fanboy - I own a 60gb PS3 and an XBOX360 elite.  I do prefer the PS3 - by far - but you could say I'm into game development..in otherwords, I know a good game when I see it, regardless of console.  I just happen to like the disc-based games a little more on PS3, and the PS3 Store games are normally way WAY better than anything you can get on XBLA..like space giraffe?  Come on..SPACE GIRAFFE?  If I ever saw such a crappy game on PS3 store, I'd sh*t a brick.

I used to be a Nintendo fanboy until a co-worker broke the news to me that FFVII was going to be exclusive on the... PlayStation.  Since then, it cured my fanboy stance, and I broke down to buy a PlayStation, FFVII, and a memory card.  And for a while, I was one of the biggest FF fanboys.  Enjoyed the original FF and FFII(IV), FFVII thru FFIX on the PlayStation, replayed I and IV in the form of PlayStation remakes, and finished most of V and VI.  But ever since FFX, the series has been crap.  Just crap.  Hated the storyline of FFX, and half the voiceovers were horrible.  FFXI should have been "FFOnline" like how Sega did "Phantasy Star Online."  Calling an MMO "FFXI" was just Squaresoft's attempt to make FF fans buy the game because it was part of the main series with "XI" labeled after "FF."  And FFX-2... WTH???  Then there was FFXI.  I did buy the collectors Ed. and guide for the sake of old time, but sadly, it was basically garbage.  During the PS2 days, Squaresoft (of course later SquareEnix) fell off the radar for me.  I'm hopeful that FFXIII will bring me back.  The Promo vids are nice eye-candy, but FFXII was as well.

Square claims that FFXIII will be like the transition from VI to VII.  But with the way how the series has been going, my anticipation level is minimal compared to the PSOne day.  In fact, it's just minimal, period.  Let's see what happens.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

Putting Final Fantasy name on a game guarantees sales. Square Enix should just get the game out whether or not it needs fine tuning and sell it and people would buy it.
