Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo making future Mario and Zelda iterations for non-gamers

With Zelda, we have to consider how to make it accessible for new gamers to pick up and play and enjoy just as hardcore gamers have.

Notice how he only mentions making Zelda accessible when asked about Mario and Zelda? That's because they already made Mario Galaxy accessible with the 2-player option. One player does the traditional Mario madness and the other can help with the second cursor, but they can't die and only have to worry about point and clicking.

They already tried that for Zelda in the Wind Waker with the Tingle Tuner. Except needing a GBA, a cable to connect it the cube, player 1 to boot you up, and a kind of rigid isolated interface wasn't all that accessible. Although for me at least it gave me something to do while my brother constantly needed help.

Probably just be a better version of something like that.

Well, I see no real harm in this.

For Zelda, this means either, that 1:1 will be too advanced, and that there won't be any. They instead focus on making an easy control method, ala TP (but maybe a bit more responsive).

Or, it could mean they are making 1:1, as swinging the remote as a sword is easy as heck to pick up.

Oh, and for you own first line Shameless, yes I believe Nintendo are stopping(actually has stopped) to make games specifically aimed at the hardcore.

SMG was not directed solely at the hardcore. It was easy to pick up and play. Sure, finishing the game was hard, but with as long time as casuals use, they would get the same playtime of doing what they are able to.

SSBB is far easier to play than Melee was, and the SSE 2nd player is clearly directed at having a little brother/sister play.

Mario Kart Wii is really easy to play. The items also make people who are really bad sometimes get a decent place.

Metroid Prime 3 had a far more casual friendly control scheme, and the Normal was a lot easier than on the earlier games.

Twilight Princess had far easier boss fights, which made the game signifficantly easier.

Having said that, this by no means say that they aren't core friendly.

SMG has 30 stars that are fairly hard to get, and 10 very hard. The latter ones will be a challenge to all players. The 30 ones will also be hard enough to produce a lot of fun to almost all hardcore, and most core gamers should think the last 100 are awesome.

SSBB has even bigger depth than Melee, and SSE is a real challenge on the higher difficulties. The online addition also adds great competition possibilites.

MKWii has flawless online, and the 12 player race makes you stay even more tuned, as anyone can get a good item and go slight in front of you. Now, you can never rest.

Metroid Prime 3 has just the same difficulity as nr 1 if you play on veteran, so there shouldn't be any problems there.

Twilight Princess has lots of ways of making the game harder, and if you don't take them, it's your own fault that the game is too easy.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

I just love how people jump to conclusions and make over-the-top assumptions based upon what they've heard instead of actual experience. It's hearsay at its finest, condemning entire companies based on what you've heard instead of what you've actually seen and experienced for yourself.

The short of this is: instead of making yourself hate Nintendo for branching out, perhaps you should actually experience what they've done first, with an open mind and a willingness to change, before you judge them so harshly. Who knows? You might even find yourself having fun playing these games that are being reviled simply because they're not what people were expecting.

It's right from the mouth of the series' mastermind Miyamoto, hardly hearsay.

This entire thread is just a whole bunch more "Nintendo is for non-gamers zomg!!!" FUD. There'll always be the HD consoles for your super-hardcore, throw-your-controller-against-the-wall-difficult games. The Wii is all about being fun and accessible, and frankly, I see nothing at all wrong with that. Can't someone enjoy both kinds of games without having to pick a side and bicker about it on an Internet message board?

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

The fact that he wants to make the games more user-friendly is all we know. I'm referring to the people who are acting like this is the end of the world as we know it, and who are denouncing Nintendo as "anti-hardcore" simply because they want to make games more appealing. Conclusion-jumping based upon incomplete evidence is still hearsay, even if the source is an authority on the matter.

Yes, but he knows that he is important for PR. He doesn't always say what he means.

You should also think about the rest of his post.

Miyamoto is too obsessed with casual gamers.
