@fila
so they mod the unit,,,but where are they gonna find pirated bluray games?is it available?

if sony does it officially they will probably price it high but not as high as import i guess.

I'm not sure about the blu ray games, I was talking about PS2 games, most people already buy a modded PS2 at the store and buy pirated games. A new PS2 original game at the store will cost you 80-100 US dollars, you can buy a pirated copy the same day (if not earlier for about 7-10 US dollars. A PS2 at the store is about $300 US dollars (unmodded). A PS3 is about 2000 US dollars.
MGS4 costs about 140 US dollars, Need for Speed Carbon PS3, 360 costs about 80 US dollars and Need for Speed Carbon PS2, Wii costs about 55-60 US dollars.
The prices are too bad and expensive, people resort to piracy, AFAIK the 360 and Wii have already been pirated, but I haven't heard of the PS3 being pirated yet, maybe another brazilian can weigh in on the issue or I'll tell you guys next time I go there (end of the year).

I was being sarcastic. Latin America is not third world.

They sure as hell ain't as rich as most other developed countries and the pricing in those areas is going to be insane.

BTW, /sarcasm is more then enough, thanks.

Brazil is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of GDP, and so is Mexico. Argentina and Chile are not doing bad either. The problem is a lot of corruption and at least in the case of Brazil the import taxes and all other taxes there are fucking outrageous, they make EVERYTHING more expensive there.

That's the most retarded shit I've ever heard.

@PDF

yea but when it becomes official there ,then the price will not be as high as import (like $2000 that fila suggested) so people will buy it more.

Umm as far as i know their are 3 kinds of countries.

Dev loped - eg. USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, etc.
Developing - eg. China
3rd world - Most places in Africa, some of Latin America...

So it is fair to call parts of Latin America 3rd world due to alot of counties ending up with in incredible amount of poverty due to cash crops and other economic factors... overall PS3 hardware should sell reasonably well in the region, however do not expect software to sell well. Its far to expensive for the general masses to buy when other items take precedence (esp. when its much cheaper to buy pirate software.)

I don't think anyone arues that they are not poor,,,,infact some of them are very rich countries,,,but first world means developed countries like US ,some of EU,Canada,Au,....

the rest are called third world,,,so your defenition of third world was very flawed.

Sorry about that. Is there a definition of retarded that I don't know about? To answer your quesion, if it costs the type of prices that have been listed than I don't believe that it would sell well in any country.

ps3 is about 2500 USD in Tanzania at the department stores.
It can be imported from Dubai for about $1200 or so which is what most people do.
