Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 Dashboard 2.0 info

nah the actual dashboard is great for a small media library.... now I need more than 5 click one way to get some TV shows... things should be more directly accessible, if the new dashboard provide that, I'll be more than happy to comply with the casual gamer avatar crap...

Meh, I like the old interface better. This one is ugly IMO.

I sort of dig avatars. It's pretty blatant, but since Nintendo has them and Sony's getting them in Home, why not? There was something mentioned about devs being able to attach avatar clothing to achievements (a Gears of War t-shirt for getting the Seriously achievement, for example), and that's pretty appealing if it does happen. Hopefully there'll also be some games that use avatars and whatnot.

It looks like the flip 3d task switcher(win+tab) in Vista.

That looks good...

The whole avatar thing is humerous. Nintendo wasnt the first company to use Avatars. I have seen the Mii's in action at my kids cousins and they thought they were cute first, but now my kids couldnt care less about them. All in all they are inconsequential I believe.

Also the new interface it is funny to hear the Sony crowd claiming they stole it from XMB. They should take a look at how Microsoft Media Center has looked over the years then admit who stole what.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

The dashboard was fine, as is.

That's like saying DOS was fine or XMB was fine. Continued addition and improvement is a sign that Microsoft is not resting on its laurel and continued wanting to improve Live and Xbox 360 experience.

May be not all their efforts are successful or even a good idea but not doing anything and wait for you competitor to catch up is probably the worst thing any company could do.

I don't know what DOS is but what did Sony change on XMB?

I just think that this whole thing is too much.  It was easily accessible already, I don't understand the region of change. All it needed was a search option/more categories for XBLM

DOS was a command prompt operating system used mainly from the late 80's early 90's.  Windows 3.1 came later from MS and was basically a GUI shell over the operating system that made it easier for the computer illiterate at the time.  If you pull up the "command prompt" in XP that will give you an idea of what DOS is.

People (mostly 360 fans) like to praise the current dashboard but to be honest as time went on and more content was added it became convoluted and a chore to find certain things.  The new dashboard looks much cleaner and will make it easier to highlight certain content.  As it is now some things are buried so far behind menus it's hard to find and a lot of people don't even know it's there.  I think of myself as pretty literate as far as technology goes but last night when the Sony video store went up I checked out the XBLM one as well to compare the two.  I had never really looked before (to be honest I think digital distribution is a ripoff) and was surprised to see as much content as there was.  I didn't pay much attention before because it didn't interest me but like myself I think there are people out there that have little idea of what's actually being offered.  I still have friends who have no idea about XBLA games or DLC for things like GH or RB.

The MS Mii's don't appeal to me much and being such a blatant ripoff I think a lot of people's initial reaction is to shun the entire dashboard alltogether.  I think as time goes on though and you look past that I think the new dashboard will be a lot more accessable and overall become a welcome change.

How old are you ? @_@

Anyway, look at Sony original XMB when PS3 was launch and what it is now.  They have improve it quite a bit and how about Sony PSN store that also got interface overhaul.

I am rather surprise that they are ready to throw out old Dashboard for a brand new one.  For better or worst I have to give them prop for their willingness to take risk and confidence they have in the new interface.

xbox owners like it, non-xbox owners write it off as sh****.
