Forums - Sony Discussion - Movie Rentals Are Up

I think it's hardware region locked. There isn't a video option in the US store from my Asian PS3 in Asia. Using a US proxy doesn't help either, which suggests to me it's locked by hardware region, rather than by IP. It's possible they detect I'm using a proxy, though, as the BBC website somehow manages to be able to do that.

Can anyone access the video store on a non-NA console?

I rent one movie just to try it out.

I'll probably never rent or buy a movie from the PSN (not paying for something I could download for free, and I am not paying for something supposedly hi-def which is far more compressed than it is on a Blu-Ray), but it is good to know it is there to compete with Live.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I can't access them from Canada. :\

how much is Live rental??

They made it seem like it was free if you had netflix.

If you have a Netflix subscription, it is free to watch streaming movies. It's like watching YouTube vidz on your 360. I have watched a couple flicks on my PC - can't wait to watch them on my 360.

Not true. Unlike the XBox LIVE movie rentals, using the Netflix streaming requires you to pay for a LIVE Gold account along with the Netflix subscription.

Lol you kill them and I'll use the marrow in their bones to feed the poor.

Man it sucks not having a debit/credit card around, or any PSN cards in my area. Really want to watch some ATHF episodes *depressed* Hey what you guys think about 9.99$ for some movies that are purchase only ( like the cable guy ) It'll be great to keep it on the download list permanently, but thats the only advantage

Is anyone from Canada able to access the movies?

I would really like a netflix type deal. I used to use netflix but I stopped because I felt I wasnt getting them fast enough and did no like waiting days to watch them. Even tho I could now do it on my pc, a deal like 360 has would cause me to become a mem again.

I hope sony gets a blockbuster deal to combat this netflix one.

+1. If all you have do on live come this fall is have a netflix account and pay 20 bucks a month and get unlimited HD downloads, that would literally own Sony's video service.
