This weeks numbers have been leaked (it's a bit cryptic though, so may be wrong).

Week 58:42 (Blu:HD)

DH4 (Blu) just edged out PE (HD) as the best selling title for the week. Overall volume of sales described as abysmal.

Oprah recommended Planet Earth on her show last week, so it had a major spike in sales. Don't underestimate the power of Oprah, lol.

Dont fool yourself .BD had to wait 10 months to arrive to 1 million movies sold ,but only over 3months to reach 2 million ,less than 3 months until 3 million movies ,and just 2 months to 4 million.......its gaining speed ,like it or not .

But it's also available on BR. Or did she specifically recommend the HD DVD version?

He didn't claim BD was selling slowly. He just pointed out sales this week were described as abysmal.

Of course if he actually gave a link, that would make the context clear.

I'm sure sales spiked for PE in general.  Of course, Planet Earth is the one title that generally sells better on HD DVD (who knows why). The HD DVD version has been outselling the Blu-Ray version since it first came out over half a year ago.

You think it's not possible for at least one HD-DVD to sell better than its counterpart? And if you just meant you don't know the reason, you didn't make that clear.

Or maybe you read too much into everything. I used to think you were genuinely neutral, but over the past few weeks the bias has been becoming ever clearer.

Of course it's possible for a title to sell better on HD DVD, but given the demographics of the two formats thus far (young adult male, with a preference for action flicks like Transformers, 300, and Die Hard), it's strange that Planet Earth of all titles has been selling so successfully for so long either format, and it's also strange that it has been consistently selling better on HD DVD (though the Blu-Ray version did outsell the HD DVD version for a bit in August).

When people say "who knows why", they usually mean they don't want to believe something. That's why I wrote that you might have meant something else.

I used to think you were genuinely neutral, but over the past few weeks the bias has been becoming ever clearer.

When did I claim HD-DVD would win? I'm only attacking those twisting facts to claim it's dying. It would be the same as people claiming a person clearly snoring was really dead.

Of course it's possible for a title to sell better on HD DVD, but given the demographics of the two formats thus far (young adult male, with a preference for action flicks like Transformers, 300, and Die Hard), it's strange that Planet Earth of all titles has been selling so successfully for so long either format,

You make a narrow-minde claim, that those demographics can't find this type of thing appealing, and you claim I'm biased?

It's been pointed out that shows such as sports and nature shows actually appeal to people with HD, since you can see more of what is going on. You can't stage the Super Bowl or bird migration for cameras, the way you can for a show or movie (although the makers of PE did try). Thus you can't put all relevant details in a scene. In that case, hi-def makes those details clear and more appealing to watch.

and it's also strange that it has been consistently selling better on HD DVD (though the Blu-Ray version did outsell the HD DVD version for a bit in August).

The main disadvantage for Blueray is that they dont allow Porno and we all know porn is 65% of the video market. lol

If you didnt know i was trying to b funny.

Except porn is actually allowed on Blu-ray. Sony just won't contract out their own disc facilities for the manufacture of porn.

Business Week: Blu-ray Is Winning
The publication says it could get Warner endorsement.
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (December 7, 2007) -- Blu-ray has emerged as the clear front runner in the high-def DVD format war against HD DVD.

That's according to an analysis published today by Business Week magazine.

The publication, which has considerable influence in the financial world, writes that Blu-ray still holds the greatest support among Hollywood studios. Four major studios now back Blu-ray exclusively while only two support HD DVD exclusively.

Consequently, Business Week says, the Sony-backed Blu-ray disc has outsold HD DVD by roughly 2-1 for the past year.

Additionally, the publication reports that Sony may be close to landing an exclusive endorsement from Warner Bros., which until now has released films in both formats.

"The rumor is that Warner is coming aboard soon," Michael Burns, vice-chairman of Blu-ray supporter Lionsgate, tells Business Week. "That will make it awfully tough for HD DVD to stay in this game."

Business Week added that  "either side could (win the Warner endorsement)...but the Sony group has suddenly emerged as the front runner."

"Persuading it (Warner) to sign an exclusive deal would give the Sony crowd about 70% of DVD market share. That could prompt the other studios to abandon HD DVD," the publication writes.

Business Week notes that if Warner were to join HD DVD, the format war would be stalemated.

"That could create mass consumer confusion and potentially strangle a new technology that the studios hope will give a lift to flagging DVD sales. That's exactly why Warner has long pushed for a single format," it said
