Forums - Sony Discussion - People need to relax about this third party exclusive thing

As this and last year have shown, there is no single game that will drive a console's sales above its normal average. Halo 3, GTA4, MGS4, GoW, etc., have all released and they've not been able to raise their respective consoles' sales far beyond normal levels.

More recently, case and point, MGS4. Yeah, it's sold 2 million in just three weeks. But it didn't cause the same kind of stir in the hardware sales. Yeah, hardware spiked a little. But eventually, it all normalized.

So people who think that just because FF13 is going multiplatform will mean the death of playstation are only being far too emotional. If trends with huge titles so far are to be followed, this news won't be much of an effect on hardware sales. And don't even say that FF13 is bigger than those other titles before. In fact, the ripple it will make would be much less too, since PS3 is still getting it.

I really don't see what the fuss is all about. In fact, we should be happy that more people will be able to play this amazing game. Stop being emo fellas.

Agreed, and I think the diminishing importance of third party exclusives actually plays to Sony's favor to some extent. It would seem to put more focus on first party games when trying to decide between consoles, and Microsoft would really have to raise its game a lot to compete with Sony's first party stuff.

I agree. And don't forget, Microsoft has had to pay millions just to acquire a game that Sony was already getting by default. So yea, it is playing to Sony's favor.

And please guys, stop this fanboy-ism thing. the more people who get to play great games, the better it is for the industry.

Atleast more people will be able to play this potental gem of a game

Exactly. This won't kill the PS3 or decide who gets second place.

yep, no single game is gonna turn the tide on hardware sales. its going to be marketing, pricing, first party support, peripherals, and the like. third party games are not going to change any trends.

That, in a nutshell, is why Nintendo is so wildly successful.

I agree. I've always thought it was the First parties job to sell the system not a third parties.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

I own a DVD player. Personnally, I'm glad that anybody who owns any version of a DVD player can own and experience my favorite movie. I also rejoice in the fact that anyone who enjoys many of my favorite games can play them regardless of which HD console they bought. Before I got a PS3, I enjoyed conversations with my PS3 owning friends about COD4. No animosity at all. Now, more people can play FFXIII. Nobody loses. Everyone wins!!

Except Sony. They lose.

yeah, sony is bound to lose a little bit. but not the groundbreaking proportions that people are claiming it to be. it'll only be a slight ripple in the pond, as ps3 users are getting the game anyway.

and anyway, isn't the point of a game to be played by gamers? let the corporations handle their strategies. its not up to us to decide what's best for them. whether you own a ps3 or a 360, all that you should really care about is playing the games. yea, be upset if a particular title isn't coming to your platform. but if it is, why the hell would you complain?
