It's the epitome of a turn based japanese-style RPG...If you don't know what that is, it's hard to discuss, kinda.

Well, 'cept for FFXII, that wasnt turn based.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Turn based RPG's with the exception of Skies Of Arcadia don't really apeal to me , i'm hoping the next Final Fantasy is something like Kingdom Hearts otherwise I'll prolly only play it for storyline/graphics.

I tried to play final fantasy 12 , best cutscenes i've ever seen but the turn based is boring as hell.

Ehm, FF12 doesn't have turned based battles. I hope 13 will go back to a more traditional battle system. It kinda belongs to the series.

The real time battles are in Tales of Symphonia.

Short answer:

FF is a series of RPG's with no connection to one another (except FFX-2) that has cutting edge graphics making it "cinematic" nowadays.

The beset seller RPG series? yes (a bit more than Dragon Quest)
The best RPG series? Not quite true

It is an over rated series that lost its edge. A loyal fanbase keep it alive by buying anything with its name on it (even Dirge of Cerberus and FF X-2).

Sad but true. I still believe that it lost its edge a few games ago.

Honestly? I'm far more excited for Star Ocean 4, and the new gameplay videos that they've shown (looks awesome) than FFXIII. It's just that this news matters because, as others have said, it's kind of like the RPG Halo: millions of people buy a system over Final Fantasy because "it's the best".

And the fact is, Final Fantasy actually has a fanbase outside of Japan - no other JRPG really has that big advantage like FF ever has had (except maybe Kingdom Hearts). Since VII, every FF has sold over 1m copies in NA and PAL each, which is huge.

Seconded.

Turn based RPG games are so trial and error. I prefer more real time action style games RPG's.
