i might be in the minority here but this was one of the main games for the ps3 for me, so it was a big deal with my purchase

That could be the case for many people, but people who were previously going to buy PS3's and are now going to switch to 360's will be spread across years of console purchases, its not as if everyone will go out now and buy a 360 simply because FFXIII might see 2010 on the 360. Sure, slightly less PS3's will be sold now, but is it really going to be a difference maker? I doubt it.

when you look at the big picture then obviously no,

but to be honest the region where this game needs to be and sells the most consoles for this game is japan, and sony still have that to themselves at the moment.

anyway when you look at it as these consoles are going to be selling 10s of millions then this games is not really a big deal, it probably would have sold like 5 mill or something anyway

It made up my mind.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

It will hurt the PS3 a bit, but if it doesn't have a Japan release it is much less then it could be. It would be major if it became a 360 exclusive, but I think it will just mean less of an impact on the games release for PS3 and few sales here and there.

I think this pretty much sums it up. This isn't going to make the 360 shoot ahead of the PS3 on the WW weekly charts, I think it's safe in last place for quite some time. (Except maybe one week when they implement the clearance price)

Let's be honest here, with the way this game is coming along it's not likely to be released until mid to late 2009 in Japan.  Thanks to the 360 we'll probably be looking at a mid to late 2010 (maybe Q1 2011) release in the west, this means that by the time this game comes out, the console wars will effectively be decided. The only true effect FF13 will have on the console wars is in Japan, because it will be released when it still actually matters.

Any one agree?

Edit: Obviously it will effect the wars by not getting the boost it would have shown for the PS3, but I'm talking now that the game is multi-platform.

I was thinking the same thing earlier today.  About this announcement meaning that FF13 won't make it out of Japan before 2010.  Hell, it is pretty much the same video we have been watching for the last 2 (or is it 3?) years.  We certainly know now that FF14 won't make it this generation, and if FF versus 13 follows the same path, all those "Which console will KH3 be on" threads will be the biggest waste of time that this website has seen.  Because it would cause at least a year delay of v13 and the KH team won't be able to work fast enough to put it out on one of these three consoles.

nope as the console sales goes everything goes up not the way it should if exclusive but still have good sales effect.

AS a PS360 owner and a fan of the franchise, these are the times you hate it would happen. We all know this was a promised exclusive. Sometimes announcements like these make me want to split the SOB's head that made the decision. I would've have bought a PS3 if I knew it was multi plat. I would've waited for the 360 version instead.

You might be onto something there, lol.

Yes, of course it will affect the console war. PS3 is now guaranteed 3rd in the US. Of all the exclusives PS3 had FF is the biggest in the US and that is now shared with their main competitor that is already leaps ahead there.
The US is still the most important market for video games. If GTA is any sign, Microsoft will do great business with FF!3.

I really don't see how this announcement leads you to that conclusion when the game won't be out for more than 2 years. Anything can happen in that time span, and heck, we haven't even seen what Sony has to offer. I think it's a little ridiculous to make that call at this moment.

Have to agree with that.

Making broad sweeping assumptions based upon a game that isn't due for another year plus is simply feeding off the least reliable source to predict a market outcome: emotion.

A lot is likely to happen between now and the actual release of FFXIII.

If I had to make a crystal ball prediction, I'd say it will have about the same impact that GTAIV had. Hardly generation defining.

Because in the US the 360 is now a pretty significant $100 cheaper, it does have more exclusives coming and Sony lost it's most important one. PS3 is a whopping 6 million consoles behind in the US. How are they ever going to make up for that if you don't have your main exclusiveS anymore. GTA was the hardest blow for the US market, but this one counts as a good second.

Furthermore the Netflix deal is also a significant  attraction towards the 360.
