Forums - Microsoft - Do you think ...

This is important because it puts the icing on the cake for the RPG push they're doing this year. To make the 6 JPRG exclusives pull together you need one or two apex games to really tie them all together and make it a completely compelling offering. Furthermore you can expand this concept to call it complete RPG domination when you factor in the WRPG games coming to the Xbox360 as well.

Tease.

no, this is not as big as the Warner announcement.

If it was 360 exclusive, MAYBE but probably not. As it stands now, not even close. With Warner, it basically killed HD DVD and it caused a chain reaction. This won't kill the PS3 and it won't cause a chain reaction.

That the FF13 announcement also on the 360 is of the same magnitude as Warner announcing it was ending HD DVD support?

And ... will this announcement affect hardware sales positively for the PS3 or 360?

I felt numb reading from PS3 folks how hurt/betrayed and shafted they felt. I played just one Final Fantasy, but I think it's apparent that Sony has been on cruise control for the past years and living on street cred.

Kudoes to M$ for landing FF13. That IS a major blow to Sony. I do not think Sony was expecting this annoucement.

Now, Snake slitering to the 360 would just top all.

Off topic, but I love your avatar. RDJ is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is my favorite comedy.

That said, forgive me, I don't remember if I've posted in this topic. It's quit hetic. I'd say it's about in line with the HD-DVD announcment for sales watchers and monumentally bigger for gamers.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Are you serious, Zen? The death of a format has a lot more impact on sales than a game going multiplatform. I'd argue that Blu-ray has more of an effect on console sales.

I think this is a huge game changer. One of the biggest Sony exclusive franchises goes multiplat. I told a longtime FF fan who hasn't played video games in a while to get his response. I could hear him wincing.

I liken this to a good football getting stuffed by an underdog - and finally is driving toward the endzone and tosses an interception that gets run back deep into the opponent's territory. No, it's not a grand-slam, but it's definitely a homerun and a devastating blow to Sony and their loyal fans who touted FF was a reason to own a PS3.

I still fail to see how this news is a drastic game changer.  Sure there will be people who will buy an XBox360 over a PS3 or won't buy a PS3 anymore.  But the fact is that FF13 is still going to be on the PS3.  If it were announed that FF13 were an XBox360 exclusive, then yes, I could see it being a drastic game changer.  As is, it's just another game that's gone multiplatform.

Don't look too hard, you'll strain your eyes. It's obvious why it's a game changer: this was the biggest exclusive sony had left besides MGS4.  Now, we just have to see what happens at E3 for sony... That will really, really decide if it is a game changer. (09' titles)

No it's not, the biggest exclusive besides MGS4 is GT5.

And it still will be a big seller for the ps3. People won't buy a ps3 just for Ff and its not like they are not getting it anymore either. Just that the game is shared now. They have several other big system selling exclusives waiting to be dropped and this gen, I'm sure Sony are counting less on 3rd parties. They know MS is pulling out exclusives from under their feet left and right and it would be stupid for them to rely on this. If we have enough commonsense to realise this, I'm sure they do to.

However, also don't forget, Sony owns a portion of Square Enix. i'm sure there is something deeper and sinister to what plans Sony have made for MS.

With games like God of War 3, Tekken, Infamous, GT5, team Ico project; Sony hasn't got too much to worry about. However, to counter what MS did to them, I'm sure they will have some sort of surprise or another for MS. We will just have to wait 7hours and 30mins to find out what it is.

It's pretty significant. Sony tend to rely heavily on third party franchises, so the loss of exclusivity is a very big deal IMO. I don't think the Warner announcement was as significant because HD-DVD was only ever an add on.

In 2 (when I believe final fantasy will come out) years a lot of people will compare the 2 systems lineups. And from what See in Sony's announced lineup its better than what the 360 has, mostly all are 1st party (Save Mgs4 and Gran Turismo). And sony has just recenlt came out with new good ip's such as heavenly sword, uncharted, little big planet, resistance, lair (it had potential and i think they MIGHT learn from their mistakes) that will have sequels. And sony hasn't announced all the games they have coming up yet.
