Regarding DQ swords, I think most people don't know that there was already a similar game released which featured similar gameplay as the Wii game has. Unfortunately, vgchartz doesn't have this game in its database, but I doubt that it was a big seller. I don't expect DQ swords to sell well either, though certainly better than Kenshin.

Yup and the sales were not that good. It has to be noted though tht that game was not a console game but more of a stand alone game which will usually sell worse because you actually have to hookit up to your TV seperately.

If it had been an attachment to the PS1 or PS2 it would of sold better and it will sell better because it will use the native controller for the Wii.

A nunchuck and wii mote is less space consuming than a large shield and sword. the memory card was pretty big too for space constrained Japan.

A lot of people over look this but one of the Wiis biggest advantages in Japan is its size. In the US size is unimportant.

This should mean that the 360 should meet the Xbox sales in Japan when you align launches and next week should jump a bit over it:

http://www.vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=XB&reg1=Japan&cons2=XB&reg2=Japan&cons3=X360&reg3=Japan&align=1

Still kinda shocking that no matter what game is released, Japanese gamers aren't interested in the 360 or PS3.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

DQ swords will sell more than 500k, in fact i think that will be the minimum. We've already seen the 250k preorders, that would imply around 750k sales LTD, but good legs could make it more.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I'd like to see NGS sales next week...

yea it should have more sales then what was collected from what 2 days?

the bundle with Everybody Golf 5 will put up some interesting sales.

NGS was released on the 14th, that is 4 days of sales.  That is probably half of lifetime sales right there.

Damn it looks like it will be a close run this week between xbox360 and PS3.

I also think it is fun for microsoft that they will soon have sold more 360 than they did sell the origional xbox in Japan.

I still think that Nintendo owns Japan :)

Guys
Dragon Quest Kinshin which is similar to DQ swords released in japan and sold over 500k copies.

What do you mean it didnt sell well lol. It was a little toy sword you hooked into your TV and played the game with. 500k is massive for that type of game. Are you guys sure you arent talking about something else? Because referencing this game is a bad bad way to sat DQ:S on the Wii wont sell well. Its on the hottest console in Japan right now and will likely be bundled. If DQ:S sells 500k alone in Japan that would be crazy good. Would make it the best selling next gen 3rd party game in Japan.

You all must be thinking of something else.

Really disappointed in Trusty Bell's figures. They should be higher for a quality RPG. At least the 360 got a hardware boost - the PS3 got nothing, but at least Sony was saved the indignation of being outsold by the 360. (NGS sales around expectations).

The top 10 says it all - all Wii & DS. Next week, both NGS & Trusty Bell will be out of the top 10 - and business will return to normal. Itadki (sp)? Streets should do really well.

...

I think everyone is seriously underestimating DQ:S. Its a really original game, with a huge license - on a new/cheap console. If it gets terrible Famitsu scores (say 28/40) it will fall off quickly... but if it gets a decent score (i.e. 35/40+) it might just be the next big thing.

I can't imagine too many kids in Japan that wouldn't want to own DQ:S!

...

Starting to feel sorry for EG5. Up against Zelda, DQ:S and more. It may sell a few units, but its going to be swamped big time.

I think Microsoft has learned their lesson, though. They're pumping money at JRPGs like gangbusters; I suspect that they've basically established a new baseline of 2k+ instead of 1k- per week, which was what they were seeing at the end of Xbox's lifespan and the beginning of the 360s.

I don't expect them to suddenly go and dominate Japan -- I just think they've gone from a miserable performance to a very bad one, and I expect that new, better performance to stick. It's not great, but MS is known for slowly, gradually gaining market share. In fact, I almost consider it their calling card; I still remember the way IE took over.

Im trying to keep my faith that Hotshots is going to move PS3's this July, but I didnt know its going to be right in the thick with DQ:S Mario Party and Opoona. I dont expect much of anything from Opoona but I think MP:8 and DQ:S could possibly do some damage. I guess we will have to see. Im not going to hold this unimpressive NGS bump against the PS3. It is a port after all. But I cant help but get this bad feeling.

I guess next we start to look towards E3, July 11th through 13th guys (I believe) should be interesting.

Well it's sad that ps3 hardware sales didn't recieve any boost. And it's really sad that the 360 didn't break 10,000. Now next week with Zelda and Itadaki Street it's looking to be a forgetful week for the console market all together, it doesn't get much better for the DS. escpecially with Dragon Quest around the corner.

If NGS didn't help ps3 hardware despite it being a remake and all I don't think we are going to see Folksoul do much for it either. They need the big guns, and they need them now.

If the 360 goes right back to 2,500 next week for hardware, then I have a hard time believing they are going anywhere in the japanese market. Far too much will depend on Lost Odyessy, and that's unfortunate.

With every passing week the Wii outselling the ps3 by such leaps and bounds even in a week the ps3 has an exciting new title and the Wii has nothing at all new going on, you have to wonder how much the developers are sweating that are designing big budget ps3 games. When FF and MGS launch and have huge drop-offs in sales from their prior titles, there is going to be huge shifts in the industry to where they are allocating their big franchises. That is if these titles fail to turn things around for the ps3, we'll see, it should be interesting. And despite the whole concept that 3rd party games sell worse on a Nintendo system, it's hard to compensate the 7:1 sales ratio.

NOW I think you understand the meaning of my little foretellings.
