Forums - Microsoft - Xbox360 is still ahead of wii??

They're going solely by NPD, and since the last released NPD figures were for May (when the Wii was still a few thousand behind) Microsoft is still technically #1 in the U.S. (for two more days).

Oh yes I forgot about Canada

But these numbers are till the end of may then probably (NPD goes till the end of may at the moment)

Wii is already in front of xbox360!

Currently Playing:

Wii: Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports Resort

Xbox360: Fifa 2009, Halflife 2 Episode 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Want to play:
Wii: Lego Indiana Jones, SMG2
Xbox360: MW2

That was such a poor showing from MS to show old NPD data, i'm surprised they never showed data from last year when they had a bigger lead on the wii. As of about the first week of June the wii was ahead of the 360 in the US.

Still it was a good fight against the Wii but it was expected. Anyway software sales I think will always remain in 360's favour as it has the best library and continues to expand. PS3 will...always have the most .......Blu ray's sold.

Again here we go again...ioi said for himself and its on the front page:

How VG Chartz comes up with its figures

1. Sales figures are determined through two important methods

  • 1. Data Sampling – VG Chartz gathers random data from a sample of the total number of retailers.
  • 2. Shipment information – VG Chartz has contacts with publishers who give their best estimates on number of products shipped.

2. Because the number of retailers selling videogames is quite large, it is possible to attain statistically valid results from a small sample.

3. It then becomes a matter of working backwards by having:

  • 1. The approximate number of retailers.
  • 2. Historical sales figures.
  • 3. Data from sales tracking agencies as reference points in accuracy.
  • 4. There are obvious limiting factors as well – few games have above a 40% attach rate, a game will never sell more than the console user base, publishers do not ship significantly more or less than they expect to be sold

Guys just check the MS conference. He used numbers from NPD MAY Wii = 10.2 million and X360 = 10.3 million so yes X360 was the most sold in USA but with the new numbers Wii is number 1.

No Nintendo is ahead in every territory, by shipped and sell through.
