Forums - Gaming - The casual crowd isn't the way for all companies to aim at

Seriously, Sony and Microsoft should just stay where they are. Chasing Nintendo's way will always be a trap. Games like little big planet was make for the casual gamer (you cant say anything about that). Yeah its going to sell but the sisters n momz of the ps3 gamer will play that seriously. Kiddie games are starting to evolve in both systems; then MS and SOny will be so focused on the casual side that maybe god of war 3 wont come out or halo warz. You'll see something like play it with a bunch of minigames in hi-def, utilizing the darwin controller or with the regular contoller. If they stay focus, wii gamers will evolve into ps3 or 360, it'll just take some years or just never.

Stop. Just Stop.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

Casual gamer market means more sales, by targeting non-gamers and casual gamers. Casual games do not interest real gamers who want games with more substance and quality. Business is business at the end of the day. Casual games are relatively cheap to make and attract lots of sales. The Nintendo Wii is a fine example of cashing in on the casual gamer market.

In a perfect world there'd be no casual games or shovelware on any console for me.

Shit happens.

And that's the problem they face. Microsoft in particular needs to justify its gaming department now, and both MS and Sony (and everyone else who's paying attention, for that matter) are betting that the..."casual crowd"...aren't going to shift anytime soon, if ever.

Sounds like somebody needs to read all of Malstrom's articles and blog posts.

Where did all of the huge Brawl and Kart sales come from? Nintendo fans + "Core" people who bought Wii < Brawl and Kart sales. People who bought Wii because of Wii Sports have moved upmarket too. That is Nintendo's strategy.

I agree. Well sort of, Sony has had a casual audience with the PS2, they will try to convince these people to move to the PS3 with Buzz, Singstar and probably a new Eyetoy game.
Microsoft however has a good fanbase who massively buy games, but the are not, I repeat, NOT interested in this casual shit. M$ is only looking pathetic this way imo.
